Paintball in Harrisonville

Located inside Harrisonville City Park, High Performance Paintball has spent the past decade filling their 10 acres of civic space with colorful paint splatters. Combat rages across their three fields, which include a speedball field furnished with inflated barriers where skilled players can hide during fast-paced melees. While one wooded field has enough open space for more than 20 players, the second favors deliberate stalking with dense trees, a burbling creek, and a 3,000 square-foot fort with multiple rooms.

When her laser makes a successful hit, the speakers in her vest fire with computer-voiced congratulations, while at the other end, her opponent's vest vibrates to ensure he knows he was tagged. Those are just two of the engrossing features of Jaegerz Laser Tag?s Lasertron equipment that help players get into the game. Opponents open fire on one another with a single pop or even a rapid burst of laser fire as they take cover behind black-lit obstacles. Players can find plenty of places to duck and run in the 6,000 square foot arena?s fog-filled room while strobe lights work to disorient players. Guests can also arrange to have birthday parties and private events held at the facility for corporate groups, scout groups, and large birthday parties.

At 280 Paintball, players who can combine speed and stealth will prove most formidable on the indoor and outdoor battlefields. Bracketed by towering trees, the outdoor theatre fills a field with wooden spindles, massive drums, and small platforms, favoring those who can turn the obstacles to their tactical advantage. Inside, splotches of paint blot the red and blue cover bags that serve as shelter for retreating platoons to hide from ambushes or pause to glue festive glitter onto their markers. 280 Paintball hands out both traditional and smaller, .50-caliber paintballs, which hit their mark with less impact and are a favorable alternative for young paintball warriors.

Any amateur golfer who has ever wondered what separates their swing from that of a pro can find out at Martin City Sports Complex. The sports haven's ModelGolf system compares fledgling swings with an analyzed composite of more than 120 PGA and LPGA pros, charting the similarities and differences. Afterward, golfers can take that information and work toward the ideal at the complex's 28-person double-decker driving range, where heated stalls host year-round practice and keep winter players from mistaking a snowball for a golf ball. And as swings become more refined, the resident club expert, Bert Benjamin, can create a club custom-fitted to each player.

Although golf?in both regular-sized and miniature form?is undeniably the focus at Martin City, it's not the only sport celebrated there. Paintball finds its place with both a speedball area and wooded arena, which players ride to in a real army truck. Each summer, athletes can also find a small sliver of the Atlantic beach in Kansas City by stepping up to the net at Martin City's sand volleyball courts.

Opened in 1989, Drop Zone Paintball Park's six fields sprawl over 89 acres of land, which play host to combat during sun or rain showers. In one field, a castle scenario corrals players into elevated turrets to defend against opponents who fire from surrounding towers across a makeshift moat. Elsewhere, trees lining ravines offer safe cover so shooters can take careful aim at their foes or draw their sweetheart's initials upon the trunks. Along with space for paintball and tournament-style speedball, the park's designers designated a special zone near the castle field where nonplayers can watch the action from a safe distance.
