Customers dust off unexplored muscle groups with the myriad exercise amenities at Spectrum Athletic Clubs. Although facilities vary by location, visitors can unleash a stationary bike from an indoor cycling studio to ride through spaces that include Pilates studios, basketball and volleyball courts, cardio equipment with individual flat-screens, heated swimming pools, and women-only workout areas devoid of the sound of men crying through exceptionally bendy yoga poses. Certified personal trainers and instructors conduct more than 1,200 group classes and training courses weekly in kickboxing, yoga, and more. Interactive kids' clubs are available for when kickbox cravings arise and the sitter is still missing after a game of hide-and-seek. After sweat sessions, nosh rewardingly with a healthy bite at the in-house café at the Canoga Park, Palisades, Valencia, Howard Hughes and South Bay locations, or attempt to digest a low-calorie towel from the unlimited towel service.
Where do elite athletes train? Sometimes under the same roof as everyday people. Velocity's trainers—some of which have worked with athletes on the world stage—bring their talents to help people of all ages meet their fitness goals or become champions during sports training sessions. With a focus on agility, speed, and strength, trainers help exercisers improve their performance in specific sports or train anyone who wants to get in better shape.
The coaches also lead students in general fitness classes, such as CrossFit, which uses intense interval training to build muscle and burn fat. With physical therapy also available, clients know someone is there to help muscles repair after an intense workout or after another botched effort at walking down the stairs while juggling.
Huw Lloyd Davies and Stu White started BodyWorks Lifestyle as a place where they can help others improve their own health and fitness. The center's training principles are built upon holistic health awareness, the fundamentals of nutrition, and metabolic conditioning. Alongside an excellent supporting staff, the team curates a curriculum of group training classes, personal-training sessions, nutrition consultations, and holistic life coaching.
BodyWorks Lifestyle also offers an online training program, a portal full of videos and written workouts for people who can’t make it to classes because their motorized unicycles are out of gas. The online program includes a weekly telephone chat with one of the gym’s trainers, who speaks to the philosophy of the center's inspirational founder.
In addition to selling cheeky T-shirts, CBC Fitness makes workouts accessible to everyone through online weekly exercise routines and toning group classes every Saturday with trainer Jessica Cheeks. Jessica also fashions custom workouts during personal-training sessions, which happen at clients' favorite parks or gyms.
Ocean Fitness is a one-on-one personal training studio in Manhattan Beach. Our intimate studio is located only 2 blocks from the beach. We offer personal training in a private environment where clients don't have to deal with large crowds, the case in most gyms around the South Bay. We also offer small group classes.
Unlimited Fitness offers its clients personalized training in lively small-group settings. The trainers welcome 8–10 clients to attend each of their 55-minute sessions, which take place multiple times a day and require reservations. Because they place a cap on the number of students in attendance, the trainers can easily customize exercise routines to suit everyone’s particular fitness goals, skills, and number of extra arms.
Besides trainers equipped with all the fitness knowledge needed to whip clients into shape, the gym comes fully stocked with everything from ellipticals and stationary bikes to resistance bands and medicine balls.
