ProPlayer Baseball Academy has a Hall of Fame dedicated to former standout students and instructors, many of whom have gone on to have big-league careers. It's a testament to the academy's clout, both as a year-round training facility and as a launching pad to the next level. Inside the 6,000-square-foot, fully turfed facility, coaches lead baseball and softball players aged 7–18 through private lessons, camps, and clinics. Four stationary batting cages let hitters tighten up their swings, and areas for long toss help players stretch their arms without having to cling to the spinning blades of a helicopter. But it's not just the game's budding stars who use these spaces: occasionally current big leaguers visit during the offseason to keep their skills sharp, too.

After more than a decade following different paths in the restaurant industry, friends Donny Giordano and Pellegrino Mongillo merged their culinary passions into Pellegrino's Restaurant & Lounge. In the kitchen, chef Mongillo—a Culinary Institute of America graduate—and his staff combine fresh, seasonal ingredients into dishes inspired by the various regions of Italy. Fresh seafood crops up in the octopus bruschetta and the scallop-, shrimp-, and mussel-flecked orzo. Other offerings include seared hangar steak with provolone and cavatelli pasta with sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese, and chicken.

In the main dining space, servers glide across tiled floors to wood tables set under arched doorways. Behind a granite bar, bartenders mix specialty flavored martinis and pour a range of international wines.

If you want to learn the differences between soccer and futsal, you won't find a better classroom than Westchester Futsal. Throughout the year, the non-profit organization—which is sanctioned by the United States Youth Futsal organization and affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation—hosts seasonal camps, private lessons, and tournaments to introduce youngsters to both sports. On any given day, the organization's experienced coaches can be seen teaching the traditional 11-on-11 format of soccer or the quicker paced 5-on-5 format of futsal, which is popular in Brazil and with foosball figurines that want more shots at the ball.

Since 1964, students of Rose's School of Dance have learned the timeless art of graceful footwork. Today, the schedule of classes represents a mix of old and new styles, and includes hip-hop as well as classic ballet and jazz. Though dance trends may change, the musical accompaniment remains the same; unlike many studios, Rose's School of Dance still boasts a live piano player during ballet, pointe, and tap lessons.
