Established by its namesake founder in 1935, Gus Bock's Ace Hardware has since unfurled its immense catalog of home-improvement supplies into three locations. A trio of brothers now runs each location, inheriting the business from their father, Keith Grill Sr., who bought the flagship store from the Bock family in 1990. The siblings strive to keep Gus Bock's personal ideals in mind as they populate their shelves with name-brand products, such as Weber grills, Carhartt clothing, Benjamin Moore paint, and Toro lawnmowers. Staff members can help patrons navigate the sea of Black & Decker tools and Oreck vacuums, as well as arrange services, such as window repair and custom key manufacturing. They also equip customers with a diverse collection of rentables, including inflatable playgrounds, party accoutrements, yard-maintenance equipment, and handy grandfather surrogates.

DeBoudoir photographers specialize in setting their clients at ease, carefully directing poses and maneuvering lighting to elicit flattering shots that smack of self-confidence. During trademark boudoir sessions, subjects wear sumptuous lingerie or drape their nude frames strategically in sheepskins and blankets before posing in-studio or on the beach. DeBoudoir tweaks this photo formula for its other services, which include engagement sessions and pinup shoots, during which subjects wear stylish vintage garb.

DeBoudoir's lingerie boutiques brim with corsets and accessories such as hats, gloves, and thigh high stockings. Lingerie, meanwhile, runs the gamut from negligees to underthings more delicate than an aging movie starlet?s ego.

A member of the Chicago School of Massage Therapy's advisory board, Peter Rubnitz founded Urban Oasis in 1992 and has since amassed a dedicated staff of highly trained massage therapists and acupuncturists. Within the airy, earth-toned spa—a member of the American Massage Therapy Association—the skilled kneaders deconstruct tension with myriad massage varieties, including classic techniques such as hot stone, trigger point, Aeschylus, Riverdance, and Swedish. The coddling canon also includes specialties such as oncology and prenatal massage, acupuncture and chiropractic therapies, as well as Thai massage and reiki, whose transatlantic kneads are imported on the backs of mermaids.

Four Corners Tavern Group encompasses eight kitchens and many times that number of taps, but it started in just one establishment, Schoolyard Tavern & Grill. There, Executive Chef Jim Hoban helped develop a menu of upscale, creative bar food, including bison burgers, korean steak tacos, and goat cheese quesadillas. As the group expanded, Hoban exported his menu to new establishments. Each location's chef enhances the selection with his or her own spin on the general concept. Though the flavors vary from location to location, the sister venues' promises remain much the same: creative fare, extensive beer lists, and flat-screen TVs playing sports while wearing the proper safety gear.
