For more than 30 years, Lee's Discount Liquor has stocked its shelves with myriad spirits, beers, and wine, earning a readers' pick as the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Best Liquor or Wine Store of 2012. Prospective imbibers get lost in a fluorescent catwalk of domestic and international tequilas, rums, cabernets, and microbrews, which deck out beverage collections with enough flavors to match any type of cuisine or postage stamp desired. Lee's Discount Liquor also hosts in-store tastings and an annual spirit-sampling event, which merges its myriad sips with entertainment from live bands.

When Schlotzsky's first opened in Austin back 1971, the owner offered just one sandwich. Known as The Original, the stack offered lean smoked ham, genoa and cotto salamis, three kinds of cheese, and a layer of marinated black olives, all atop a hot sourdough bun. That’s all it took to get Schlotzsky’s off the ground, and ever since the shop has evolved into a global franchise, featuring locations in 35 states and four countries. Of course, on today’s menu you’ll find a bevy of handhelds, salads, and even pizzas to complement The Original. Even still, that name-making sandwich is a customer’s trusted go-to.
When Forest Mars Sr. was a boy, in 1911, he watched with rapt attention as his mother, Ethel, crafted gourmet chocolates in their kitchen. 70 years later, he honored her memory by making chocolates of his own in Henderson, Nevada, where today a small factory still whips up his mother's recipes alongside modern confections. Traditional candies mingle nuts, cr?me liqueurs, and caramels with dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and truffles. Handpicked pecans float amid chocolate and butter in Ethel M's signature brittles, and milk, dark, and sugar-free chocolate envelops bite-sized treats such as espresso beans, pretzels, and fruit. Ethel M Chocolates invites visitors to tour the factory, where chocolatiers prove sweets can be made without preservatives or the witchcraft of Keebler elves, before sending candies to seven Las Vegas?area shops.

What was the inspiration for starting this business?
I was driving to California to purchase olive oils, vinegars, and Wines because there were no olive oil and wine stores in the Las Vegas Valley. I figured that if I was driving to California to get these products, other people were doing the same thing, and maybe I could fill a niche. I also wanted to educate my customers on the health benefits of my products and ways they can use the products in their everyday lives.
What is the best reaction you?ve ever gotten from a customer?
"Oh my gosh, this is amazing."
What?s your favorite part about your job?
Engaging with my customers.
