Tempest Freerunning Academy's trainers invite everyone, regardless of their age, athleticism, or experience, to learn more about the philosophy of parkour and the fluid acrobatics of freerunning. The academy features training areas developed by X-Games course designer Nate Wessel, which consist of ledges, ramps, railings, short walls, and other obstacles that students learn to effortlessly vault and traverse over time.

Classes meet throughout the week and cater to the capabilities of attendees. During the beginners' sessions, visitors will learn fundamental parkour movements and methodologies while developing the strength, balance, and body awareness that they will need to master the flips and bar techniques introduced in more advanced lessons.

Above all else, these lessons emphasize the core philosophy that people can learn to seamlessly navigate real-world environments with grace and free-flowing sequences of movement. Safety remains a priority for the trainers at all times though, and they ensure that students respect their limitations as well as their surroundings before attempting to perfect a new technique.

The Firefly Run combines the rigor of a 5K and a 10K race with the kaleidoscopic colors of a light show. LED beams and lasers pierce the dark, leading racers decked out in light-festooned gear through nighttime streets and parks to raise money for charity. Race coordinators keep competitors bright by encouraging them to wear costumes fitted with glow sticks, cartoonish helmets, light-up armbands, or any other light-themed decoration. Beyond the finish line, runners and audiences alike celebrate at a postrace dance party with live entertainment, visual effects, and a costume contest that rewards unique outfits and the athlete who was able to ward off the most gremlins.

Nobody leaves the Splash Dash 5K dry. A series of splash stations equipped with massive showers, shallow pools, and careening water balloons litter the 3.1-mile course, waiting to soak every participant before they cross the finish line. Down one straightaway, runners may confront a gang of volunteers ready to blast them with water guns, only to turn a corner and face the deluge of a fire hose. After braving the watery gauntlet, runners of all ages celebrate their victories at the Splash Dash Bash after party, where prizes are awarded for the best costumes and finish times as runners dance to music and attempt to dry off by matching the speed of their washer's spin cycle.

No matter their athletic ability, kids aged 4–12 can get something out of Sports Champs' multiplatform day camps. That's because in addition to helping kids hone speed and strength in a number of sports––including basketball, field hockey, track, and volleyball––the CPR- and first-aid-certified counselors also encourage them to start thinking about sports-focused careers. Weekly guest speakers give fun and interactive lessons on broadcasting, management, nutrition, and physical therapy, to name a few.

In addition to the sense of perseverance and accomplishment that comes with finishing a 5K, the organizers of the Bacon Chase have added another incentive: bacon. During their two races?the 5K Piggy Pilgrimage, which is a traditional 5K, and the 0.05K Blitz to Bacon, which is a 164-foot sprint?runners can munch on unlimited bacon bits before feasting on unlimited amounts of bacon at the finish line. Runners 21 and older can wash down the savory strips of bacon with a bloody mary, and all runners get a Bacon Chase T-shirt and a signature bacon-scented bib. The festival opens at 8 a.m. and features many bacon-themed activities, plus music.

The festive day serves a greater purpose, too. Attendees will be able to register to become a St. Jude Hero, raise money for St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, or both.
