Sculpted into the rolling hills of western Illinois, Clinton Hill Golf Course?s undulating fairways flow into large, challenging greens across two distinct, nine-hole layouts. Mature arbors pepper the landscape, threatening the autonomy of airborne balls while providing scenic, shady plots in which golfers can pause to gawk at the layout?s lush greenery and herbivorous golf carts grazing on native grasses. A longer layout and a higher concentration of bunkers supply the bulk of the difficulty on the front nine, and water hazards await at seven holes on the course?s back nine, placing a high demand on confident swings and deft club selection. Those looking for new gear can peruse Clinton Hill?s pro shop, which peddles golfletic apparel and accessories from the game?s top brands. After a round of aggressive pin-hunting, players can retreat to Clinton Hill Bar and Grill, where guests can enjoy live sporting events on one of several TVs or revive sleepy golf bags with an icy beverage.

Stonewolf Golf Club bears one of golf's most venerated distinctions: it's a Jack Nicklaus Signature course, meaning that the legendary golfer personally scouted the land and helped shape the layout. Only three other public access courses in the country can make this claim, and the par 72, 6,943-yard layout is one of only four Nicklaus Signature courses in Illinois and Missouri. The course itself reflects a distinct design effort, particularly in the way each nine closes with a dramatic challenge. A 447-yard par-four, the ninth hole is the course's most difficult, forcing golfers to play a long approach shot into a green guarded by bunkers on both the front and the back. Giving the course a sense of symmetry, the 18th hole?the second-most difficult track?is also a long par four at 446 yards, and the round concludes on a two-tiered green that creates treacherous putting scenarios. Course at a Glance: 18-hole, par 72 course designed by Jack Nicklaus Length of 6,943 yards from the tips Course rating of 73.4 from the tips Slope rating of 136 from the tips Five tee options Scorecard

Ste. Genevieve Golf Club makes good on its promise as a golf course accessible for all skill levels, and then some. Four sets of tees is something of an unwritten standard for most golf courses, though some more generous ones furnish five. Ste. Genevieve, meanwhile, has six. Beyond the Blue, White, Yellow, and Red tees lay a Level 1 and Level 2 set, ideal for youngsters just learning the game, those with slower swing speeds, and those desperate for a hole-in-one that will finally impress their fathers. These tee options make the course as short as 2,256 yards or as long as 6,396, though challenges lurk around every dogleg regardless of length. A stream cuts across several fairways on the front nine, and tree lines run along the fairways throughout. Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par 72 course * Total length of 6,396 yards from the back tees * Course rating of 69.2 from the back tees * Course slope of 112 from the back tees * Six sets of tees per hole * View the scorecard

Opened in 1960, Union Hills Golf Course's 18-hole layout presents a tale of two nines. On the front nine, golfers can swing freely?and find their rhythm?on a mostly open layout, easing their way into the round. The tone shifts on the back nine, where fairways tunnel through dense groves of trees that have grown tall in their half-century of maturation. Adding to the difficulty, water hazards come into play on four holes throughout the round. Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par 72 course * Length of 6,560 yards from the tips * Course rating of 72.1 from the tips * Slope rating of 134 from the tips * Three tee options * Scorecard
