We spoke with Jack Macaluso?Regional Social Media and Web Coordinator at Beauty Schools of America?about how the academies prepare students for careers in the real world and why it's important for the schools to give back to their communities.
On the schools' mission
Above all else, Jack says that the schools "try to focus and harness the students' creativity," while giving them all of the experience and practical skills they need not simply to be prepared to enter the work force, but to succeed and thrive. The relatively lengthy training programs ensure that aspiring stylists, cosmetologists, makeup artists, barbers, and massage therapists fully understand the intricacies of their chosen specialty, as well as what they need to do to continue advancing their future career according to Jack.
On the role of the instructors
With a roster of instructors that includes industry professionals with international spa and salon experience, Beauty Schools of America strives to give attendees a broad view of the numerous options open to them. Jack is also clear that the teachers' guidance isn't limited to classroom environments. When the advanced-level students are allowed hone their talents by performing treatments for actual clients, "an instructor or two will always be there to assist and answer questions," he says.
On the products that the students use during treatments
Students use brand name products like Moroccanoil, Sojourn, Nioxin, and others. Working alongside their instructors at modern service stations, these stylists use these products to craft en vogue cuts, color, styling and therapeutic practices.
On the schools' charitable involvement
Beauty Schools of America embraces opportunities to give back to its communities while providing real-world experience for students at the same time. Jack goes on to describe events where the schools' aspiring barbers and cosmetologists performed complimentary services for underprivileged residents, and he mentions one specific occasion when massage students provided free treatments for community members who participated in a bike ride dedicated to raising awareness about multiple sclerosis.
Helmed by master stylist and makeup artist Kat Koroniotis, the professionals at Oh La La Salon by Kat keep a finger on the pulse of the beauty industry to bring the latest techniques to each hair, skin, body, and nail service they perform. For instance, the salon's hairstylists specialize in thermo-cutting, an approach that uses specially heated scissors to seal the end of each snipped strand and help leave hair healthier for longer. The staff merges this passion for innovation with a slate of acclaimed products such as Tigi haircare serums, Wella hair dyes, and organic keratin proteins. Pevonia skincare products power pore-cleansing European facials, and nails fresh from mani-pedis bask in layers of OPI or Essie polish.
The stylists at Chickas Salon strive to give their customers the royal treatment in a stress-free environment: each shampoo also includes a relaxing head massage, and customers sip complimentary tea or coffee during haircuts. Friendly experts and beauty consultants specialize in the art of hair, nails, and wax including cuts, colors, blow dry, styles, highlights, lowlights, extensions, mani-pedis, and more. The staff's main objective is to provide each client the style and look they desire while helping them find the right fit for their lifestyle.
Oasis Dream Spa's staff aims to offer guests a Parisian-themed refuge from everyday life with facials, revitalizing body wraps, and mani-pedis. The massage therapists are skilled in nearly a dozen massage modalities, enabling them to stimulate circulation and relaxation with Swedish massages, relieve pregnancy symptoms with prenatal massages, or help snowmen lose weight with hot-stone massages. Oasis Dream Spa's fat and cellulite reduction treatments target trouble spots through a variety of methods, including radio frequency devices, which break down fatty cells and stimulate collagen production for smoother, firmer tummies, hips, or thighs.
Pit Center, Day Spa and Therapy Center welcomes guests to relax within a tranquil setting with spa and weight-loss treatments. Certified massage-therapists soothe muscle aches and pains with pressure and kneading, while facial treatments cleanse and refresh pores. Other services include waxing, body treatments, nutritional consultation, and body shaping.
Curvy furniture and structural accents add dimension to the salon's all-white interior, where stylists, aestheticians, and nail techs pamper guests in heated massage chairs with an array of services. Using products by Wella, Moroccan Oil, Aquage, and GK Keratin, hair pros cut, color, and apply deep-conditioning treatments. When reclining in a pedicure chair or prepping fingers for elegant thumb-wrestling bouts, guests are lavished in Shellac and OPI polishes. ART beauty products complete looks, as makeup artists use pro techniques to cover, contour, and enhance features. Facials are completed with the help of Dermalogica serums and microcurrent and microdermabrasion technology.
