In olden days, people showed off their strength by jousting or flexing their mustaches. But at Maverik Man Games, both men and women prove their mettle with less violent feats of strength, such as launching a fellow teammate from a giant slingshot. Designed for individuals as well as teams, the competition encompasses up to 10 challenges, which range from showcasing your basketball-shooting skills to wrestling pigs into a barrel. Along with its land-bound activities, Maverik Man Games includes a variety of aqua-centric events, such as a giant rope swing and human slingshot.
Held over two days, the eccentric decathlon takes about two to three total hours to complete. Participants that place in the top three overall or for each challenge are rewarded with cash and prizes. And, all participants are likewise rewarded at the end of the circuit with tasty food, and live music.
At Jim McLean Golf School, all students have an impressive audience: an experienced teacher, and the mountains on the horizon. The school offers group and private lessons on its driving range, chipping green, putting green, and nine-hole course. As clients work on perfecting their swing, JC golf-swing analysis software helps chart weak points and suggest solutions, and the staff doles out personalized pointers on everything from form to what putter would best fit your body. Some packages even bundle classes with lunch and time on the nearby 18-hole Red Ledges course. During the winter, lessons can relocate to an indoor facility in Park City, where a simulator recreates the course experience on an enormous screen.
Fox Hollow Golf Club's narrow, scenic terrain challenges athletes with holes that reward precision over distance. Climb aboard the included golf cart and traverse Fox Hollow's 7,077-yard, par 72 course, littered with orb-hungry mature trees, methodically placed bunkers, and water hazards shaped to resemble cinema's most famous rain puddles. Each hole attempts to distract golfers' pinpoint shots with awe-inducing views of the Wasatch Mountains, and punishes those who overplay their long drive by swallowing their ball in the expansive roughs. Though not included with today's Groupon, customers can practice their putts and celebratory bogey boogies in Fox Hollow's lighted practice areas before swinging for the greens.
