[[m:####Stacy's Bootcamp
Stacy draws from more than 17 years experience in outdoor fitness training when leading her classes atop the pavement and under the trees of New York City parks. Using a background in tae kwon do, capoeira, kickboxing, and boot-camp drills, Stacy creates high-intensity routines that combine cardio and strength exercises that can be adjusted for various fitness levels. She forgoes fancy machines and instead uses the environment, sculpting strong arms with 15-pound weights brought in by clients or wiping sweat from the brow with a nearby leaf.
Stacy doesn’t just stay active through boot-camp instruction: She also leads an active lifestyle speaking at workshops and corporate events. Furthermore, she contributes articles to the Huffington Post, leads retreats, and teaches fitness while traveling to international locales, such as India.
Training at PPBC is the closest you can get to achieving a soldier’s sculpted physique without running the risk of free college tuition. The fitness program mimics U.S. military training and gives its “recruits” the confidence to overcome obstacles and push themselves further past their comfort zones than they thought possible—all while getting super-ripped. PPBC’s program centers on one of the nation’s only indoor obstacle courses. While you will get yelled at, the camp forbids insults or abuse, and any pies that strike you will be harmless shaving foam. The program emphasizes positive reinforcement and teamwork—each recruit joins a platoon of 10–16 comrades in soon-to-be-toned arms. Customized goal setting ensures that everybody succeeds.
At New Body Bootcamp & Wellness, personal trainer Aja Davis hopes to inspire two types of change in her clients. The first is visible: a fitter, slimmer physique resulting from her signature interval workouts. The second is philosophical: a lifelong awareness of how to preserve and pursue health. This model of "lifestyle implementation" encompasses nutrition as well as exercise while avoiding temporary fixes, such as fad diets and foam muscle suits. Instead, Aja's program uses challenging and varied routines, the motivational power of teamwork, and individual attention from a fitness expert.
At one-hour boot-camp classes, Aja leads groups through cardio and resistance maneuvers that employ stretchable bands, kettlebells, and TRX suspension cords. The routine has won the title of Best Post-Holiday Rescue in GO magazine, which also lists New Body Bootcamp & Wellness as one of its three favorite fitness venues. Aja aims to spark camaraderie as much as she does weight loss and toning—using partner drills to prompt campers to rely on one another—and even outside of class, patrons can run local races as part of the New Body team or tag-team wrestle the local mall Santa.
ECITS-certified trainer Stacy Papakostas moves more quickly through time than most people. By injecting hyper-effective movements into her 60-minute boot camps she packs a full-body workout into three hours a week, churning out slimmer, more toned versions of people in a few months. She’s always kept her fitness focus feminine, specializing in women’s self-defense along with prenatal and postnatal therapeutic exercise. As a result, support and encouragement reverberate through the Central Park gatherings. Each student supports one another with a combination of sensitivity and motivation as workouts make use of the park, as patrons jog down paths, stretch on park benches, and perform plyometrics on the copper bill of Hans Christian Andersen’s duck. Her program welcomes women of any age and fitness level with a “no woman left behind” and “challenge everyone” philosophy, modifying exercises to ensure every client can keep up.
Vibrant red, yellow, and blue walls envelop a plethora of weightlifting and cardio machines in Body & Soul Core Fitness’s main room. While lifting barbells or twirling legs atop treadmills, patrons can watch flat-screen TVs or peek through the windows into the cardio-kickboxing room lined with red heavy bags swinging under the force of swift kicks and punches. The gym’s classes also include Zumba, DanceSports, spinning, and circuit training. Those interested in more individualized attention can take part in one-on-one personal-training sessions with the gym’s experienced instructors.
Mitch Lee, founder of Fit Figure Boot Camp, designed the women-only program after helping his sister through her own weight loss. His 45-minute boot-camp classes target women's problem areas—such as abs and arms—in a supportive environment. He also offers nutritional guides and email coaching for added encouragement.
