Mixed martial arts are brought to pupils in diverse forms at 300 MMA Fitness. Boxing, kickboxing, and tae kwon do heighten adrenaline. But women’s self-defense focuses on arming practitioners against attackers as much as sculpting bodies. The gym also holds camps for ages 4–6 and 7–15 and classes for the whole family.
Premier Choice Fitness’ guests roam 15,500 square feet of floor space full of exercise equipment for self-guided workouts, private rooms for group fitness classes, and handpicked personal trainers ready for one-on-one and small-group sessions. Racks of free weights and iron-laden weight machines help to keep muscles as clearly defined as a prenuptial agreement, and exercise bikes and treadmills line the facility's television-bedecked wall, waiting for a fitness-minded visitor to give them a workout. Group classes meet in one of the center's mirror- or window-lined rooms, where students develop camaraderie during yoga, Zumba, or kickboxing sweat sessions. In addition to workout facilities, Premier Choice Fitness also keeps tabs on youngsters with childcare services and provides tanning sessions to leave customers perfectly bronzed and capable of photosynthesizing their own food.
Although mentions of martial arts often conjure images of skilled, dexterous fighters waging lightning-fast war upon one another, the disciplines themselves are far more concerned with peaceful confidence. That's what the instructors at Ingram's Karate instill in students young and old. Built upon John and Cindy Ingram's decades of training in Isshinryu karate, the dojo now guides students as young as 4 toward inner balance and physical fitness under the direction of the couple's daughter Sheri. In addition to personal enlightenment, students often find themselves on the winning side of tournaments on the state and national level.
At Aikido Academy of Martial Arts, Sensei Elliott Schwartz and his nationally certified instructors works to teach adults and kids the self-defense techniques of Nihon Goshin aikido, a method that draws from other martial-arts modalities, including jujitsu, karate, and judo. In an encouraging and accessible atmosphere, classes teach techniques such as throws, joint locks, and strikes to students ranging from newcomers to prospective instructors.

A pop-art mural on the back wall features musclebound bodies, exploding logos, and a bit of the starry cosmos. It's all the frivolity that the coaches at Battleground Training allow themselves. The rest of the facility remains unadorned cinder block and cement, a Spartan setting broken up only by the workout equipment that dots the gargantuan space. Heavy punching bags dangle in the middle of the room, and resistance bands sprout from the walls. Tractor tires and free weights occupy some of the floor, but the venue leaves plenty of space for the most important aspect of the training: room to move. The trainers take on past, present, and future athletes, helping them hone their bodies through boxing drills, lifts, and attempts to dodge echoes.
