The course at Botetourt Golf & Swim Club skims through the densely forested terrain of the Roanoke Valley, revealing dramatic glimpses of the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains as players contend with its string of pristine trials. Opened in 1962 with just nine holes, the course celebrates half a century of expansions and improvements that have culminated in its current status as an 18-hole championship track. Golfers today send drives hurling through hilly terrain carpeted with lush sod and roll their putts over undulating greens in pursuit of a par of 71, all while the freshly shorn flags of conquered pins dangle from their belts.

With three locations in the Valley area, Roanoke/Botetourt Athletic Clubs offer extensive facilities, a focus on member convenience, and a variety of group-exercise classes a week. (Class descriptions and schedules here.) Membership to any of the clubs allows you to use all three facilities. The family membership includes the buyer, his or her spouse, and any children younger than 21 who live at home. Both membership options offer unlimited workouts at any of the locations, allowing patrons to keep their muscles nervous and on edge by constantly varying the time, frequency, and location of exercise. Fitness seekers at the Roanoke Athletic Club and Botetourt Athletic Club can make use of cardio theaters, gymnasiums, steam rooms, professional-grade racquetball courts, and the track. Indoor and outdoor pools allow aquaphiles to immerse themselves in the object of their love year-round, and pool-goers at the Botetourt location can combine the joy of swimming with low-friction delight in the form of a 23-foot water slide. Complimentary child-care is also available at the Roanoke and Botetourt locations. Members with little time can participate in lightning workout rounds at the smaller, more centrally located Zoom express fitness center in downtown Roanoke (however, your Groupon cannot be initially redeemed at this location).

Stroller Strides' fitness professionals employ creative exercise regimens to aid new mothers in overcoming the struggles of staying in shape while caring for a wee one. All you need to get started is you, your baby, and a stroller. The 60-minute classes are taught by certified instructors and consist of a warm-up, a buggy-bandying power walk, and interval stations where participants do a variety of body-toning exercises. In the event of a fussy-baby episode, instructors can provide physical exercises you can do with your baby or calculus exercises to occupy your baby's mind. Stroller Strides also offers Fit4Baby prenatal classes and a Body Back series that helps moms reobtain a prebaby physique.
When discussing pole dancing with reporters from WDBJ7, Jenni Waters explained, "It's strength, agility, you need to be graceful, and it takes a lot of technique to really master the pole dance art." During Jenni's own quest to conquer the dance's challenging poses and physically demanding combinations, she shed 40 pounds of unwanted baby weight. Delighted by the results, Jenni decided to open her own pole-dance studio, where she leads students toward slimmer and stronger selves through a variety of instructional and fitness-focused classes.
Towering chrome poles sprout up from the studio's floor, where dancers practice sultry swings and core-strengthening spins. Jenni opens her classes to students of all sizes, genders, and experience levels, welcoming students to wear whatever they most feel comfortable in—from erotic 6-inch heels to more conservative Vote for Benjamin Harrison T-shirts.
