Jack of all spa trades, Head-to-Toe Nails & Spa’s owner Lillian boasts credentials as an aesthetician, massage therapist, and nail technician. She performs noninvasive beautification techniques such as waxing unwanted body hair and overgrown eyebrows, and deep cleansing the skin during facials. Using Swedish therapeutic, deep-tissue, Thai, Hawaiian lomilomi, or her own combination of massage techniques, Lillian relieves shoulders of excess stress caused by working long days or trying to decide which massage to get. Lillian also tends to hands and feet during nail treatments, many of which feature pumpkin peels, milk baths, and massages.

Zorka Pinkas, the owner of FIMASE-Family Massage Service, spent most of 2001 traveling the world. A consummate student of the backrubbing arts, she had already logged around 20 years on the job when she set about globe trekking. Zorka visited such places as China, Australia, Nepal, and Myanmar, studying the massage techniques of each culture. The world tour was part of an effort to perfect her craft in order to help her deliver the maximal benefits of massage to her clients. The Czech-born practitioner holds a degree in pediatric nursing in addition to being a graduate of Hawaii Massage Academy. Zorka's many special certifications include infant massage, ideal for babies stressed from lifting too many refrigerators.

In ancient Hawaiian culture, places and things took their names not from their function or surroundings, but from dreams and interpretations of that object. Kupuna an kumu Aunty Malia Crave, a respected Hawaiian poet gave Na Ho'ola Spa the name based on this practice, calling the spot "many healers." To bring her vision to pass, the spa gathered up dozens of therapists and aestheticians whose sole goal is to soothe clients in the 10,000-square foot, two-story facility nestled inside the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa.

Massage therapists rub tension from muscles, using products derived from Maui-grown plants. Aestheticians promote healthy skin with Carita treatments, and a line of anti-aging skin care products imported from France. While they relax, visitors enjoy stunning views of Waikiki Beach out floor-to-ceiling windows.

Hawaiian sitar music hums softly in the background of spacious, private rooms, setting a tranquil mood as licensed massage therapists ease aches with a blend of shiatsu and lomi-lomi techniques. As a heating pad warms muscles and helps release tension, the kahuna (teacher) delivers specialized strokes from other modalities, using various yoga positions and techniques to optimize breathing and flexibility. The relaxation can also be taken outside, as practitioners perform these massages in the salty breeze of the beach. During ocean massages, therapists use the weightless buoyancy of an outdoor salt pool to manipulate bodies into positions that both release tension from muscles and communicate with nearby migrating whales.
