Fashion Designers Bootcamp aims to ignite industry passion in both learned and aspiring designers alike. Designer Theo Garcia, featured on MTV and E! Entertainment, guides participants through the five steps of launching a fashion line, from concept, to creation, to marketing dresses hewn from solid titanium. Attendees may also delve into such industry facets as couture, street wear, and tailoring. Also hitting the podium with a full quiver of sewing needles will be brand-identity expert David Tyreman, scheduled to speak on his experiences catapulting such brands into stardom as Nike and Polo.
Typically, yoga studios feature glossy wood floors and big windows that let in plenty of natural light. However, at Salt Yoga in Waikiki, the setting is anything but typical: the big windows are instead the wide-open sky, the hardwood floors the gentle waters of a cove. Even the mats are different; instead of standing atop flat beds of foam, yogis balance on specially designed standup paddleboards that float on the surface. Led by certified yoga teacher Peter Jacobsen, students paddle out to the designated spot before executing carefully planned routines while safely anchored in flat water.
MoonStruck Yogi isn't just a yoga studio; it's a sanctuary for individuals seeking community, empowerment, and an extra dose of flexibility and balance. Between its violet walls and hardwood floors, students of all levels gather for motivating classes filled with strength-building poses, deep-breathing exercises, and stretches as relaxing as a massage from a lavender sachet. To help yogis forge friendships, teachers encourage after-class mingling by initiating friendly conversations or brewing fresh chai tea.
Getting exercise shouldn’t be a complicated endeavor, and that’s why Yoga Theorie aims to keep yoga simple with three 60-minute class options designed for all skill levels. Instructors lead students through a synchronized flow of breathing patterns and poses during Vinyasa classes, and The Basics incorporates stretching exercises and strategies for comfortably hiding in the backseat of your favorite celebrity’s car. Yoga Theorie also provides a limited number of mats and other equipment.
Superhuman Fitness owner and certified trainer Levon Basso helps clients reach their fitness goals through personal training and outdoor fitness classes. Early-morning light twinkles on the ocean’s surface and envelops Lee-Ann Watanabe and her troupe of dedicated boot campers on Ala Moana Beach. Watanabe gives the go-ahead and campers charge, leaving the turquoise waters behind them as they sprint the sandy expanse before them. This is a common scene at 2CW HI boot camp.
A former coach potato turned triathlete, Lee-Ann Watanabe knows what it takes to get in shape. Drawing on her supportive yet tough demeanor, she motivates groups through intense cardio and resistance training at the above-mentioned beach, in Kaka'ako Park, or within Studio X, earning her business features in Midweek and other local publications. Every workout, she changes up the routines—which draw heavily from functional exercises and plyometrics—to prevent muscles from becoming bored and absent-mindedly ingesting a whole box of Twinkies. Dedicated to helping exercisers of all experience levels, she scales her workouts to match individual goals, working to ensure all participants benefit equally.
