Established in 1954 and having garnered the Birmingham magazine 2010 award for Best Dance Classes, Dale Serrano Dance Inc. and its troupe of talented instructors lead children of all skill levels, aged 2–18, in classes ranging from jazz and ballet to hip-hop, tap, and cheer. Budding ballerinas gracefully plié and gallivant about the class, and musical-theater mavens learn the ins and outs of stage performance. Dancers who commit to additional months of vigilant rehearsal and practice can showcase their talents at the year-end recital or opt for impromptu performances at nearby weddings and city-council investitures.
With a lineage that traces back more than 30 years to its founders' respective schools, Tiger Rock Martial Arts has grown to more than 200 locations nationwide. Adults can learn tae kwon do as well or encounter martial-arts moves in a calorie-torching aerobic workout. Tiger Rock also partners with sports teams to bolster their training or with corporations to get their employees up, moving, and healthy.
Sterling Burroughs, the National Dance Council of America-certified dance champion behind Planet Ballroom International, has been teaching dance for more than 25 years. His impressive teaching career includes 14 Freddie Awards and more than 150 regional and national awards from the Fred Astaire Studio organization. He has trained several award-winning performers in many styles. Now, Sterling leads a team of instructors in teaching these acclaimed techniques to budding dancers of all ages and skill levels. Students learn to gracefully twirl and twist through Latin and ballroom dances such as the rumba, East Coast swing, and the foxtrot. During group and private lessons, instructors help students communicate through movement, from the long, yearning strides of the tango to the slight adjustments to falling powdered wigs performed during the Viennese waltz.
Cahaba Cycles' safety and performance overhaul starts by making surgical adjustments to the tension of the brakes, ensuring riders can stop on a dime, pick it up, and buy a Chiclet without ever dismounting. Derailleurs are inspected and rebuffed to transform sticky gears into smooth shifters. Wobbly wheels undergo a truing process to increase pedal pumping efficiency and ease momentum retention. Rattled-loose or lazy bolts will be torqued and tightened, and your horseless horse will be wiped down from rim to saddle.
