More than 20 years into a career in the fitness industry, RDA owner Rob knows he's in the right field. His passion for helping people realize their full potential is actually why he founded the center. "Allow us," he asks on his website, "to be part of your journey toward a healthier, happier life." A community- and family-oriented gym, RDA is where group fitness and independent workouts are equal partners in success. Free morning childcare services don't hurt, either.
The facility is stocked with everything to help exercisers reach their goals, including treadmills that face floor-to-ceiling windows and certified trainers who help lead the way in 15- or 30-minute sessions. Spacious studios also host a packed schedule of mostly 60-minute classes that help participants get fit and still have enough time to name each of their new ab muscles.
Registered Dietitian Lori R. Lee and certified personal trainer Bob Lee's marriage resulted in more than a family: it produced a business that united fitness and nutrition. The couple has spent a combined 40 years working in the wellness industry. Clients at The Wellness Center of Northwest Jersey experience the sum total of their experience, knowledge, and desire to share both at this facility recently reestablished for women only.
The center's staff of experts teach 30 small group classes per week including Pilates and yoga geared toward clients ranging in age from teens to mature adults. In addition to their Reader's-Choice award-winning workouts, certified exercise specialists guide novice and experienced athletes through injury or post-injury rehabilitation exercises or assist teens and adults with management of chronic pain and overall body conditioning. Lori herself uses the science she learned as a Registered Dietitian to help clients reboot their diets. She reminds them that, "You are what you eat, except you never grow chicken wings."
You won’t see rows upon rows of intimidating training equipment at Chizel Fitness. Instead, a dedicated staff of expert trainers welcomes you into one of their many varied fitness classes, which are also different from a standard gym’s lineup. They lead ballet barre classes, pushing patrons toward sculpting lean, dancer-like muscles with small, isometric movements performed at, of course, a ballet barre. During real cycling classes, cyclists plug in to the multirider Computrainer system—which accommodates four riders—to virtually pedal through any course, training for a triathlon or reliving your paper-route glory days. They also offer weight-resistance and plyometrics classes that use kettlebells and TRX suspension training, and Pilates classes on mats or equipment including reformers and towers.
Fitness Factory's three North Jersey locations each have their own distinctive features, but they share at least one common trait: a dedication to help clients achieve personal wellness. Each staff of trainers offers personal training sessions and also leads group classes that range from fast-paced Zumba and boot camp to more mellow yoga classes conducted by sloths. To further accommodate clients, the fitness clubs offer a smoothie bar, sauna, and babysitting services.
The ochre walls of Bikram Yoga Cedar Knolls bring to mind vast and peaceful deserts while certified instructors lead yoga students through challenging poses in a 100-plus-degree studio. During 90-minute classes, instructors assist students in mastering Bikram’s fixed sequence of 26 challenging postures. These poses, when performed correctly, sculpt lean muscle mass and increase flexibility enough to help students reach that python hiding under the fridge. Since the yoga room is hot, students are advised to bring a mat and towels and drink plenty of water before class.
The instructors at Prana Yoga Center help visitors connect with the mind, body, and spirit through yoga and Pilates classes inside an elegant studio. A peaceful sanctuary that was voted Best Yoga Studio by readers of Morris/Essex Health & Life, Prana Yoga Center’s practice space emulates Hindu culture with rustic tile and wood details, mottled orange and yellow walls, and a tranquil golden icon. Classes range from gentle, meditative sessions to advanced sequences, including twists, arm balances, and back bends, most of which do not require students to have rubber skeletons. The studio also hosts events such as introductory workshops, guest instructors, candlelight yoga, and special mommy-and-me classes.
