Modeled after video games, scenes from famous movies, and real-life wars, SplatBrothers Paintball Park's outdoor fields challenge first-time and returning players alike with obstacle-cluttered terrain that change early and often. Players can duck for cover in a school bus, ice-cream truck, or disco van, surprise opponents hiding in a chicken coop, or lead attacks from more than 40 bunkers strewn across a spool-littered field. They can also sneak through a trapdoor to climb to the top of a three-story tower, which looms above a field the size of two football fields or 200 one-yard models of football fields.
In between gaming scenarios such as capture the flag and freeze tag, players reload and rehydrate in the Welcome Center, where visitors test their aim at the target range, watch bouts from the viewing area, or feast at picnic tables. Along with private weekday and public weekend games, SplatBrothers Paintball Park hosts tournaments, scenario games, and monthly big games based on pop-culture staples such as Angry Birds and The Walking Dead.
XZone strives to keep teenagers active and engaged with a lineup of after-school and summer activities for all interests. Through it all, the center balances its array of sports offerings with scholastic assistance for students in grades 6?12 with onsite tutoring services and a computer lab. Those who prefer friendly indoor competition can head to XZone's game room or gym, and those feeling hungry can socialize over a bite to eat from the caf?.
Of course, XZone also offers more active pursuits. Taekwondo instructors lead martial arts classes that teach patience and confidence. Xzone offers a variety of sports including skateboarding, paintball, and airsoft fields, which are all open to the general public on Saturday and Sunday. Referees keep paintball matches running smoothly on five large fields riddled with obstacles and dubbed with names such as Spools, Smart Boxes, and Speedball, which clue players in to types of play.
Every fall, as the leaves turn orange and the air becomes crisp, owners David and Patricia Hand open up a portion of their operating farm to the general public. Aptly named the Green Hand Farm Park, the agricultural attraction features an 8-acre corn maze that challenges families, students, and office groups to work together to find their way out. The labyrinth takes on a new theme each year?such as a salute to the American soldier?and incorporates facts and clues. As maze participants interrogate corn stalks for directions, hayrides journey to a pumpkin patch and young visitors leap and bound over bales of hay. At night, campfires spring to life for cooking hot dogs and s'mores. Aside from these attractions, there is a farm market to lure visitors.
Swamp Paintball Park unleashes recreational combat across more than 40 acres of terrain. Its fields encompass multiple forms of paintball, including scenario games, woods ball, and speed ball for those seeking out adventure. Those who show up unarmed can outfit themselves in rental packages that include Tippman '98 markers, masks, and all-day air refills, which is easier than performing CPR on the air tank in between shots.
At Chesapeake Sports Park, guests of all skill levels negotiate a range of exciting, obstacle-spattered fields. At the start of matches, players lead daring charges through dense vegetation on the woodsball course or overtake a wall on an urban field as they cover an opponent in a wild spray that forges an abstract modernist painting. For a quick adrenaline boost, strategically placed tubes line the grassy hyperball field, making ideal conditions for fast-paced warfare. A field-paint-only facility, Chesapeake Sports Park's onsite pro shop stocks bags of paintballs and equipment from brands such as Tippmann, Bob Long, and Luxe. Committed to a safe experience, Chesapeake Sports Park starts new players off with a safety training and requires full-face goggles with ear protection to be worn at all times. In addition to general public play, the facility welcomes birthday parties, group outings, and other private events.
G-Force Karts boasts a massive, all-indoor facility that provides entertainment in any weather. The twists and curves of the indoor karting track challenge drivers of any age. Adults can tear through turns in custom-built GT 5 karts, while kids can get a taste of speed in the safety-conscious junior karts. Not far from the track lies the inflatables area, where kids can bounce and slide in single- and dual-lane obstacle courses while parents watch from central tables. The newest indoor entertainment, though, is G-Force's paintball arena. The staff provide every player with all the tools they need, including guns that fire softer, less-messy z-balls.
