Sports Bars in Kempwood

Select Local Merchants

Walk into any of BreWingZ Sports Bar and Grill's 19 locations, and you'll be faced with many decisions. First, of course, is the food: the sports bar's crisp, juicy wings come in more than 25 different sauce flavors from classic suicidal hot to orange ginger. The mozzarella cheese sticks are carved from a cheese brick, breaded, and fried to order. And then there are the salads, sandwiches, burgers, and wraps. The family-friendly restaurant even gives kids an extensive selection with six child-friendly dishes, some of which include the same signature items their parents enjoy. But once you've ordered your food, there are a few more dilemmas: Which of the plentiful beers do you choose? Which game on the many massive HD televisions do you watch? Which one is the fork, again? Luckily, the spot's easygoing atmosphere and bounty of entertainment doesn't quite necessitate speedy decision making.

Thick branches of 140-year-old oak trees stretch above Live Oak Bar and Grill, shrouding its wooden outdoor patio in a gentle blanket of leafy shade. The patio stands behind the restaurant itself, a home built in 1876 that is still decorated with photos of its original occupants and recent shots of their poltergeists.

And while the building itself is steep in century old history, the grill's cooks prefer to use ingredients whose age doesn’t match Live Oak's historic surrounds. Instead, they source fresh, natural ingredients from local farms to create their homestyle versions of classic bar dishes, from half-pound burgers to fish tacos smothered with jalapeno ranch dressing. Feasts unfold amidst rounds of billiards, sports flashing on flat-screen TVs, and weekly karaoke, while outside, live musicians occasionally take to the stage to serenade diners.

Del-Mar Lanes is set up for bowlers of all abilities: If you want to take your game to the next level, you can sign up for their league-bowling competitions, which meet five nights a week. Alternatively, players can also choose to plug the gutters with optional bumpers, which help level the playing field for younger players or those who prefer to bowl with footballs. As guests chase strikes and spares, Del-Mar Lanes’ snack bar keeps appetites at bay with fried mushrooms and hot dogs, which can be washed down with soft drinks or beer.

Texadelphia's menu of cheesy, steaky, 100%-Angus-beefy goodness kicks off any meal with a bang. Order some chips and guac ($5.49–$5.99) and chicken tenders ($6.49–$6.99) before tearing into the Founder's Favorite, the cheesesteak that started it all (Angus beef or thin-sliced chicken breast, cheese, mushrooms, and jalapeños, $6.89–$6.99). Branch out along southern lines with the Texican, a beef or chicken cheesesteak with all the trimmings and a side of chili con queso for topping or spooning ($6.89–$6.99), or the Hickory, laden with house-recipe hickory barbecue sauce and manned by a crew of mouth-pleasing cherry peppers ($6.89–$6.99). Items of non-Philly origin also dot the menu, such as the grilled-chicken sandwich on a toasted wheat bun ($6.29–$6.59) and the smoked turkey and guacamole salad ($6.79). Prices and menu offerings vary slightly between the two locations.
