Q&A with Sue, Manager

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?

After having children of my own, I discovered how difficult it can be to find a nice, secure place for them to play and release some energy. Seeing the faces of the kids light up when they enter the inflatable room is the best part of this job. They enter the facility thinking it is just another business?until they see the inflatables and that's when the excitement begins.

What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?

We have an indoor inflatable room where kids can run around and have some fun without being outside in the heat.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?

Arcade room is also part of the weekday play, and it doesn't require coins. On weekdays only, unlimited play runs Monday?Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Kids also receive a drink and a snack with their entrance during these times. Weekends are reserved for private parties.

Les Callaway is no stranger to the tennis court; he won the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship in his freshman year of college. Though he employed some top-notch training techniques to achieve his athletic goals, he never lost sight of the importance of loving the game. Today, as the head instructor at Cypress Tennis Academy, Les combines both his passion and his acumen to create group and private lessons for students of all ability levels. “We care not just about your tennis game, but your enjoyment of a life-long tennis adventure,” he says before excitedly listing off the kids’ summer camps, tournaments, and adult classes he teaches. The air at his facility is as invigorating as his attitude, the newly resurfaced courts sitting adjacent to a big fishing lake, a source of both fresh breezes and excellent midgame sushi.

Don't let the primal grunts, the frenzied shuffling of feet, or the sweat fool you: Northgate Country Club's tennis facility is a classroom. Presiding over the operations are Director of Tennis Lioudmila Skavronskaia?who was once ranked 124th in the world and Russia's top-ranked junior?and Head Pro Kate Pomier?who played number-one singles and doubles at Kansas University. Armed with abundant firsthand knowledge of what it takes to ascend to tennis's highest ranks, the two develop and implement curricula designed to help players meet their goals, whether they want to develop a solid backhand or defeat legendary tennis player Larry Bird in a match. The club offers private lessons, hitting sessions, and clinics for juniors and adults alike.

While growing up in Peru, Ken Sjoberg had a passion for tennis. He dedicated years of his life competing, winning championships, and earning rankings before eventually deciding to share his love for the game by founding KS Tennis to help others realize their athletic potential. Equally capable of teaching children or adults, Ken offers lessons for students of all skill levels. Introductory lessons focus on the basic fundamentals and the more advanced sessions emphasize the mental aspects of the game in addition to the physical skills. These sessions frequently teach players how to use strategic play and telekinetic powers to win more matches. Training is only one aspect of preparation, though, so Ken also sells necessary equipment and offers racquet-stringing services.
