A team of experienced athletes and certified strength-and-conditioning specialists work to help athletes and regular exercisers reach a higher level of fitness. With over 15 million students trained since their founding in 1968, Villari's Martial Arts Centers continue to train pugnacious pugilists young and old using techniques crafted by Grandmaster Fred Villari. Developed as a fusion of classic Eastern fighting styles, Villari's exclusive Shaolin Kempo Karate combines the graceful energy of Shaolin, the quick, explosive blows of kempo and karate, and the grappling of Chin Na to provide combatants with a varied, effective self-defense system. Children gain strength and discipline in youth classes, while adult classes leave grown-ups ready to handle anything from dojo defense to tense lunchroom stand-offs over the day's last apple bran muffin.
Double jab, straight right, left hook, straight right. Fists fly and feet dance across The Fitness Asylum floor during boxing classes that turn in-the-ring techniques into full-body workouts. Boxing is just one of several different classes offered at The Fitness Asylum—a boutique fitness studio created as an alternative to mainstream gyms, which are often crowded, and at-home gyms, where the only spotters are pets. Many of these classes incorporate workouts using dumbbells, kettlebells, and even tires that add variety for optimal results. The Fitness Asylum's Signature Body Challenge bootcamp program offers exercisers a bounty of educational tools and support from others on the same journey.
Studio owner Amanda Freel's passion for Pilates began in 2005, when she herself was still a student. It only took a few years for her to make the switch from Pilates student to Pilates instructor, falling so in love with the practice that she earned Pilates mat, apparatus, and Reformer certifications. To round out her fitness curriculum, Amanda incorporates Zumba's dance-infused workout into her routine, as well as the TRX Suspension Training program, which she is now certified to teach. With help from her team of yoga, Pilates, Zumba, kickboxing, and TRX instructors, Amanda hosts small group classes designed to help patrons of all fitness levels develop the ability to climb a mountain while touching their toes the whole way up.
