After the combined stress and pain following an accident where she was struck by an automobile, Chris Ackermann wanted to help others avoid the kind of experience she had gone through. Hoping to offer a respite from the stressors of physical trauma, Ackermann went through the rigors of more than 700 hours of training at the St. Croix Center for the Healing Arts. There, she learned techniques in integrative, deep-tissue, sports, reflexology, and chair massage, among others, creating a multifaceted foundation on which to begin her business, Time to Relax. Today she puts her skills to work, customizing each massage to her clients' individual ailments, pains, and stressful fortune cookies from last week.
During her training at St. Croix Center for the Healing Arts, Jody of Smyls4u developed a massage technique that's uniquely her own. While learning many of the major modalities such as deep tissue, relaxation, and hot stone massage, she decided to take a more holistic approach to treatment. Rather than provide a one-size-fits-all massage, she customizes her services to suit each client's specific needs. For Jody, massage is more than a physical therapy—it's also a means of balancing mind, body, and several dictionaries on your head.
Massage therapists Amanda and Kate Hagsten relax muscles, relieve stress, and promote wellness in an elegant studio decorated with artwork and fresh flowers. The foundation of Forget-Me-KNOT’s has been a dream come true for Amanda, who had wanted to establish an inviting space for people to rest their bodies and minds after long days spent hunting for lunch with tridents. Kate, meanwhile, finds joy in helping others to develop balance between their bodies and the environment; she’s currently a candidate for a PhD in the field of ethnobotany. The Hagstens treat a range of ailments with a variety of massage-therapy services including Swedish, deep-tissue, hot-stone, and acupressure modalities.
A full-service hair salon, spa, and tanning facility, Perfect Reflection invites clients into a cozy atmosphere that features dark wood cabinetry and contemporary décor. The business retains a staff of enthusiastic, accomplished professionals, who work tirelessly to keep pace with the latest trends and fashions. They apply that knowledge during hair services for women, men, and kids, as well as during esthetic treatments, including makeup application, mani-pedis, and ear piercings.
Getting a massage isn't just an indulgence for Michelle Alvermann. It also inspires her to be a better practitioner. It reminds her of the importance of helping her clients feel great, whether they come to her seeking pain management or to curb anxiety, sleeplessness, or muscles that squish when you walk. She performs six different modalities, such as deep-tissue, pregnancy, and cranial-sacral therapy, in private rooms with soft music.
