Voted Best Theatre Company in Birmingham magazine’s 2010 Best of B'ham survey and winner of the Birmingham News Best Live Theater in 2009, Red Mountain Theatre Company transports audiences into compelling worlds of theatrical fantasy. Five Guys Named Moe tells the tale of Nomax, down and out in classic blues fashion, abandoned by his girlfriend and the contents of his wallet. Trying to console himself in the bleary hours before dawn, he is surprised when five guys named Moe emerge from his 1930s-esque radio and entertain the misery out of him with songs, cheers, jeers, and a recipe for duct-tape pie. Celebrating the music of Louis Jordan, one of the most successful African American musicians of the 20th century, the Moes croon such hits as “Let the Good Times Roll,” “Caldonia,” and “Messy Bessy.”

Theatre Tuscaloosa sprang directly from the Tuscaloosa Community Players, a rag-tag troupe formed in 1971 that played hotels, churches, and the castles of wealthy Southerners before it moved to the Bama Theatre late in the decade. By the end of the 20th century, Theatre Tuscaloosa had racked up a wall full of awards, including the Governor’s Arts Award and numerous Druid Arts Awards. 1998 saw the completion of the Bean-Brown Theatre, which serves as Theatre Tuscaloosa’s current home. It’s also the site of the company’s first world premiere, A Dickens of a Carol, scored by Alabamian Brad Simmons.

This rendition of the J.M. Barrie–penned childhood classic stars Sarah Litzsinger, the longest-running Belle in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, and features well-known songs such as "I Won't Grow Up," "I'm Flying," and "Pirate Song." A source of nostalgia for adults and an early introduction to magic, wonder, and spandex tights for the young, Peter Pan is exciting and engaging for all ages. Watch as Pan leads his wily pack of Lost Boys away from grown-up responsibilities such as showering or tax returns, all while the villainous Captain Hook seeks five-fingered revenge on the Neverland hero. And if the play's the thing, the theater itself is the other star of the show. The complex, constructed of more than one million bricks, is set in a scenic 250-acre park featuring English-style grounds, a lake, and an authentic invisible Loch Ness monster.
