South Shore Sports Center invites athletic enthusiasts to engage in such sports as soccer, basketball, and lacrosse within its massive sports and entertainment complex. Groups can rent one of the three fields for their ball-based diversions, each featuring all-purpose synthetic surfaces that make them ideal for lacrosse or soccer on the turf fields and basketball or uncomfortable napping on the hard courts. In conjunction with the recreational revelry, the center also hosts birthday parties, clinics, and summer camps geared toward athletic improvement.
Established in 1858, the Boston Fencing Club stands today as one of the nation's oldest fencing clubs. The club perpetuates a winning tradition that attracts national fencing champions, NCAA collegiate fencers, and a horde of happy sword hobbyists. With five-time fencing Olympian Michael Marx directing, the club's time-tested fencing program services swordsmen of all skill levels, from 6-year-old beginners to professional marshmallow hunters. In class, adult and youth students learn the basics of the sport while wrapping their mitt around all three fencing weapons: the foil, the sabre, and the épée.
As a conglomerate of paintball facilities, Paintball International offers many distinct destinations for chromatic outdoor combat. Some fields, such as Splat Zone Paintball in Louisiana, challenge players to find adequate cover in an arena littered with creative obstacles. In Massachusetts, PnL Paintball thrusts players into a realistic Ghost Town, comprised of churches, multilevel buildings, and stone walls. Meanwhile, trees, leaves, stacked wood, and foliage inside K.C. Crusaders offer players all-natural hiding places from which they can spring forth to surprise their rivals or remain undetected while they determine the color palette they will use to paint Water Lilies on the surrounding bunkers.
At Action Games Paintball, players streak across 80 acres comprising six woodsball fields speckled with forts, towers, bridges, and bunkers. After playing one of 10 themed games such as capture the flag or attack and defend, they post up against a towering tree or at a picnic table and dig into a complimentary, all-you-can-eat barbecue lunch.
In 2003, Bob Pollard packed all his passion for surfing and skateboarding into one shop dedicated to serving the community and fellow extreme boarders. After Bob's untimely passing in June of 2006, his passion lives on through the shop, which is now owned by Bob's buddy, team rider, and first employee, Dan Hassett, Luminate continues to make its mark in the region by supplying their own brand of surf and skate gear along with lessons lead by experienced boarders. Additionally, Dan and his team, which includes assistant director Jessica Horton, sponsor contests, help with beach cleanups, and donate to a wide variety of local charities. In keeping with Bob's upbeat, enthusiastic spirit, Dan works to keep the shop the same inviting place Bob made it, welcoming adventurers of all skill levels to stop by, chat, and learn more about boarding sports.
