Stylist Karen Lin Graves of Salon G Styling Studio honed her craft at the Pinnacle Institute of Cosmetology, and uses that knowledge to do more than create fetching haircuts and eye-catching color treatments⎯she also works to ensure that her clients can re-create their new styles at home. In addition to her skills with shears and color, Karen also gained certification from NovaLash and Simply Smooth keratin treatments.
Teardrop lights dangle from the ceiling, illuminating each stylist?s workstation. The long, oval mirrors?held upright by storage cabinets on each side?and modern salon chairs are arranged in staggered rows on the sleek hardwood floor, almost as if on display for an audience. Stylists give each client the star treatment with eye-catching haircuts, highlights, and luxurious blowouts.
At Rock Glamm Hair Studios, stylist Kyrsten Riles creates new looks for clients with a variety of haircare services. Partial highlights add dimension, and single-process color treatments can lighten or darken hair or cover those pesky grays that keep coming around no matter how many times you say "It's over."
Most of the time when kids go to get their hair cut, they're lucky if they're able to watch a movie they've seen a thousand times or play with the single toy the salon keeps on hand. But even that doesn't generally happen. And because most salons don't bother to entertain kids, haircuts can be a difficult thing for them to sit through.
Yet, when kids go to Snip-its Kids Hair Salon and Spa, they get an adventure. Staffers first hand kids a Snip-its Adventure Club card, and then invite them to sing along with the salon's own cast of animated characters. There's Curly Comb, the adventurous Flyer Joe Dryer, and the group's leader, Snips, an anthropomorphized pair of scissors with a shock of brown hair. This same crew stars in computer games and activities that kids can play at each salon station, which dazzle eyes with more bright colors than a car covered in Lisa Frank stickers.
While their clients explore imaginative worlds, stylists use a proprietary line of natural and allergen-free products to create buzz cuts and bobs. At the end of the process, kids visit the Magic Box. The enchanted device awards kids a prize in exchange for a swatch of hair. On special occasions, stylists can also photograph a baby's first haircut or transport girls to Tinseltown during a Hollywood Party.
In order to make every salon experience exciting for kids and relaxing for adults, Snip-its Kids Hair Salon and Spa's partners with Autism Speaks and trains stylists to work with kids with autism.
Stylist Toni Hunt knows that no two heads of hair are exactly alike. And so, before taking out her scissors, she takes the time to carefully consult with each client about their hair and lifestyle to ensure they get the most appropriate cut or the styling treatment that will deliver the best results. Beyond being well versed in styles and color services ranging from classic to avant-garde, Toni offers several different types of smoothing treatments, including the Brazilian keratin formula and BioIonic Kera Smooth. But the choices don't stop there. She can also add extra length using two different extension methods: wefted extensions use a no-braid, no-glue process to secure hair for 6–8 weeks, while strand-by-strand extensions which last 3–5 months are a better choice for those in search of styling versatility, or those who like to get to know each new hair on a first-name basis.
There's an instant sense of comfort whenever a person enters HairColorXperts. And it's no wonder why. The staff greets their guests with a complimentary beverage menu that promises everything from pink lemonade to white wine to a cool Yuengling Light.
Yet the biggest thing setting a new visitor at ease is the consultation process, since that's when each hairstylist's skill set becomes apparent. The route to a new or classic look may pass through a simple trim or a drastic cut, a simple color or an ombre fade. For their makeovers, the salon's experts rely on professional products from the likes of Wella Professionals and Moroccanoil.
