The professional teachers and staff at The Children’s Courtyard nurture minds and nourish spirits in tots ranging from 6 weeks to 13 years old. Armed with training they receive at The Children’s Courtyard’s unique master schools, they lead engaging programs in interactive classrooms, most of which brim with computers equipped with up to 50 learning programs. Class participants play games, sing songs, and interact with friends, which allows them to learn valuable skills in cognition, conflict resolution, and academic performance through activities geared toward their age group. Regular programs inspire little minds in half- and full-day increments, and summer camps take kids on field trips to see new animals at the zoo, sing a song at a recording studio, and muse over the complex metaphors for the role of capitalism in a local fairy-tale play.
Since 2007, the Robots-4-U team has been teaching children a program of STEM?science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Children absorb skills and knowledge through entertaining interactions with instructors, other campers, and robot kits. The camp maintains a 16:1 student to instructor ratio, ensuring children receive the proper amount of individual attention. Campers build robot kits comprising a brain unit and sensory appendages, which replicate seeing, hearing, touching and reading minds. Once the bots are assembled, children enter their creations into racing, dancing, and battle-bot challenges.
Ten Seconds Studio's project professors instruct classes in a range of metal-based art forms. Metal-embossing classes immerse fledgling artisans into a three-hour lesson divided into two parts: first, students glean the basics of embossing in a 90-minute demonstration that acquaints hands with the included start-up kit, basic technique, and recent patty-cake trends. The remainder of class is spent using newly learned skills to gussy up a metal picture frame (included in the start-up kit). Students may then take their shimmering creations home with them to exhibit family photos or cherished panes of glass.
Bistro Desserts lets its Latin inspiration show—mainly through the staff’s specialty flan. They churn out traditionally flavored flans, as well as recipes that taste like orange, pumpkin spice, or espresso. They even use flan as a nontraditional icing for their cakes. The hybrid desserts come in several flavors, including coconut flan atop a pineapple cake or chocolate cake with vanilla flan for a more classic combo.
