For close to a quarter century, the staff at HeadTurners Salon and Wellness Spa have been helping people look and feel better with a menu of relaxing treatments that earned the Hutchinson News Readers’ Choice award for Best Day Spa and Hair Salon in 2009 and 2010.
In the salon area, cosmetologists customize cuts and colors at 15 hair stations, and nail technicians pamper hands and feet. Two licensed massage therapists loosen muscles with aromatherapy or heated stones, and aestheticians clarify faces using the Clinical Care Skin Solutions line. The spa also offers automated treatments for clients seeking high-tech relaxation and detoxification or guests who were raised by robots.
The crystal chandelier illuminates a copper-colored tin ceiling and lights the way toward a reception desk made of rich cherry. Guests can browse a selection of jewelry, clothing, and accessories in the boutique area.
Natural techniques and products are the only things on the menu at Artisan Healing. Led by a talented and passionate team of massage therapists, Artisan Healing focuses its energies on healing through holistic massage, reiki, and skincare. The custom oils, lotions, and scrubs that the Artisan Healing team blends together contain only natural ingredients, such as shea butter, jojoba and essential oils. Mother Nature also provides the decor—earth tones shade two massage rooms, one with a shower, and natural sunlight illuminates the studio.
Complexion Perfection’s licensed aesthetician Brianne Whitley keeps it simple. Her skincare treatments fall into two categories: facials and chemical peels. A selection of four facials is designed to combat specific complexion issues, while nine different chemical peels employ more aggressive blemish-fighting formulas still gentle enough for use on patients with rosacea, dry skin, or melodramatic noses.
Dr. Stephanie V. Oberhelman at Kansas Surgical Arts is both a Doctor of Osteopathy and a board-certified general surgeon. Armed with a laproscopic camera, she removes appendixes and diseased sections of colons with minimal incisions and stitches. She also uses cameras to peer into the GI tract, screening for cancers, snatching biopsies, and oohing over kaleidoscopic formations. To improve patients’ exteriors, her team of vascular experts maps out varicose veins with ultrasound technology before using noninvasive methods—such as sclerotherapy or lasers—to diminish their appearance.
Your month of tanning gets you unlimited access to Caribbean Sun's clean and comfortable base beds (you may upgrade to another bed model for an additional $2–$9.) A skin-savvy staff member will talk to you about your complexion and color-changing goals before helping you develop the ideal skin-shading routine. If you're allergic to artificial sun, one of Caribbean Sun's UV-free spray tans can give you a fresh-off-the-beach golden glow without causing sneezing or busy eyes. A certified tanning technician will administer the pigmentally potent spray using a top-notch Norvell system, and after just one session, you'll notice a marked difference in your skin tone.
