Pro Ski and Scuba, a PADI five-star IDC facility, shares the basics of breathing underwater in the two-hour Discover Scuba Diving Experience led by certified instructors with more than 25 years of combined experience. The controlled pool environment keeps things safe and simple for all involved as instructors acquaint students with provided dive equipment as well as aquatic dos and don'ts culled from their vast, ocean-like expanses of knowledge. During the 2.5-hour class, students practice ascents, descents, and anglerfish impressions. Although students aren't certified to dive after one class, the Discover Scuba Diving Experience’s skills can be credited toward PADI open-water certification should class-goers decide to pursue an underwater graduate degree. Those who prefer to dive in groups can bring along up to three friends, and kids ages eight to 12 can forgo conventional birthday parties for a celebration in Pro Ski and Scuba’s pool with up to eight friends and two adults. Birthday parties often span 2.5 hours, and for an additional $20, Pro Ski will provide a birthday cake and silverware.
Part of the venerable Paul Mitchell network, the Salt Lake City school channels its doctrines of style and technique through a squad of students supervised by professional instructors. Inside the school’s 22,000-square-foot facility, beauty-gurus-to-be assuredly snip away during haircuts, each of which includes a five-minute scalp massage, and slather on lactic-acid peels, each of which includes a five-minute memoriam to dead skin cells. Tresses can be smoothed into submission with a flatiron, curled into a hirsute coil, or stylishly swept into an updo. Students complement these many shapes with bold or subtle coloring treatments, sometimes relying on block or dimensional color to add depth.
Paul Mitchell the School trains its students to be citizens of the world as well as ambassadors of beauty. The school sets an example worth following with its eco-friendly practices and support for charitable causes that give back to the local community.
Students at Paul Mitchell the School Honolulu learn techniques cultivated by the widely acclaimed brand that has received many honors, including mentions in Esquire, Seventeen, and Allure magazines. The school’s pupils prettify clients with a host of guest services including manicures, haircuts, color treatments, perms, and updos to match the ice sculptures you saw at your cousin’s wedding.
Carrie Tiemeyer proudly assumes the identity of The Bug Lady as she educates kids with the aid of more than 75 insects and animals. A teacher, Carrie began incorporating live-insect demos and activities into her lesson plans, which caused a former student to christen her with the arthropod-centric nickname. Noninsect cast members also enhance the demos, allowing science students to cozy up to hedgehogs, ferrets, reptiles, and birds. Committed to educating as many people as possible, The Bug Lady can show off her living coursework at the science academy, or escort teams of millipedes to a chariot and travel into the community for mobile demonstrations.
