Barking orders for more than 20 years, The Sergeant's Program's head sergeant Chuck Dyson and his dedicated troop of more than 50 sergeants and personal trainers transform figures with military-style fitness sessions. The program provides a knowledgeable instructor to lead recruits through cardio, core, flexibility, stabilization, and resistance training while creating camaraderie amongst fellow fitness platooners. Though each day is fueled with running drills and calisthenics, Mondays and Fridays will be focused on increasing lower body and flank strength and Tuesdays and Thursdays will be geared toward upper body workouts. Cardio-intensive Wednesdays are solely dedicated to getting the heart pumping, sweat streaming, and reshaping rumps flattened by years in stagecoach-driver seats. Although the sergeants utilize a tough-love approach to push clients to their fullest fitness factor, the atmosphere is kept personable by their injections of light-hearted humor and giggling quartets of chipmunks.
During Dr. Andrew Carver's three decades in podiatry, he has served as a team podiatrist in the NBA and the USFL, as well as acted as the podiatrist for American Tennis Professionals. He treated the illustrious feet of patients such as Barry Bonds and Andre Agassi, who routinely reported burns from setting the court on fire with his footwork. A man of untiring initiative, Dr. Carver invented a widely used orthotic implant and founded the HealthSouth Surgery Center's second-year residency training program. The celebrated podiatrist also lends his surgical skills to the philanthropic Baja Project for Crippled Children.
Even if Dr. Pearl weren't a podiatrist, he’d still be thankful for feet. In his free time, he presses his own against bike pedals, straps them into skis, and puts them through their paces on running trails. This active lifestyle helps him empathize with his patients at Arlington Foot and Ankle, where he works to promote wellness from the soles up.
Besides his special interest in sports medicine, Dr. Pearl draws on extensive training that ably prepared him for the fractures, ingrown toenails, and cases of rheumatoid arthritis he regularly treats. As a board-certified podiatric surgeon, he can remove bunions, and as a fan of light, he also offers laser nail treatments. The practice can also mold custom orthotics that can be worn to help realign foot structure.
Licensed podiatrists Dr. Francis J. Smith and Dr. Michael A. Klein deliver soothing relief to feet and ankles aching from infections, poor circulation, and arthritis. Operating out of two facilities, the doctors work with such advanced technology as the OssaTron shock-wave system, which treats conditions of the bone, joint, and tendon, and specially designed lasers that painlessly wipe away bacteria tucked beneath nail beds. The staff ensure that patients thoroughly understand their treatments beforehand, and work to offer each one a comfortable, educational visit and free hourly puppet shows at the receptionist’s desk.
The specialists at Total Wellness Chiropractic Center of Bowie help their patients achieve total wellness through a multipronged approach that includes chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, posture correction, and weight-loss programs. The combination of services successfully alleviates neck pain, disc problems, and injuries from auto accidents and high-intensity sports such as football or speed-reading.
26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, and 19 muscles must work in harmony for the human foot to function properly. At Alexandria Family Podiatry, Dr. Richard Lee and Dr. Steven Lin use x-rays and ultrasounds to locate disturbances in the foot's complex machinery. They use the computerized pressure analysis of Footmaxx to customize orthotics to each patient's gait, turning shuffles to confident strides and limps to military marches. Through laser treatments and surgical procedures, they work to liberate feet from common problems such as plantar fasciitis, hammertoe, and foot fungus.
