The clacking of pool balls is the nightly soundtrack at Gate City Billiards Club. Public and private rooms feature 11 Brunswick Gold Crown tables and 3 Diamond tables, which allow for open-play and league games—as well as lessons helmed by experienced instructors. Though pool is the main attraction, the space also welcomes casual play with a ping pong table, dart boards, and foosball tables, and camaraderie around live sports shown on eight flat-screen TVs. An on-site bar serves more than 50 beers and spirits.

For 23 years, the manager of Break Time Billiards & Sports Bar has been surrounded by the murmurs of friendly chatter and clacking of pool balls that define a billiard room. But unlike the style of a traditional billiard room, his serves hearty Italian-American fare from local landmark Carmine's Restaurant for groups to enjoy while they play. It would seem there are surprises around every corner, because far from simply providing billiards, the fully equipped, smoke-free establishment also boasts dart lanes, electronic games, and a constant stream of sports broadcast on the myriad big-screen televisions.
For all its extras, however, Break Time Billiards & Sports Bar still has the feeling of a classic, upscale billiard room. Designed by avid players and sports enthusiasts, the layout leaves plenty of room between its Diamond professional tables to prevent annoying collisions.
