Lisa Rowe Glickoff's career is just as diverse as the pictures of fantasy, special effects, and beauty makeup in her portfolio. When not busy prepping faces for fashion, film, and high-profile events—she dolled up Debra Messing for the 2006 Academy Awards— the makeup-industry veteran, who has more than 20 years under her belt, spends time on the other side of the industry. In addition to serving as a beauty rep for brands such as Origins, she also has created Astute, her own line of makeup. But even with all of these accomplishments, the one that’s closest to her heart remains the founding of Astute Artistry, her makeup-training boutique and beauty studio. From within the intimate space—wrapped in hot-pink and black walls and decorated with modern Paris-themed decor—she teaches eager students how to create Hollywood-approved special effects and beauty makeup during hands-on classes, at fashion shows, and on film sets.

When not teaching others the tricks of the beauty trade, Lisa puts her aesthetician license and chic boutique to use by shaping brows with threading, enhancing eyes with lash extensions, and rejuvenating mature, teen, and dehydrated skin during facials. Lisa and her team also provide traditional makeup applications for brides and those attending special events, such as DMV-themed weddings.

Lisa pours her energy into helping those in need, which is why she founded Astute Artistry II, a nonprofit makeup studio catering to women affected by skin and hair conditions, which was featured in Hour Detroit magazine. She also spends her time rallying for makeup artists' rights, including getting the word out about legislation that would distinguish makeup artistry as its own independent trade.

Seasoned aestheticians, makeup technicians, and licensed massage therapists can be found throughout the tranquil halls of L'Aryola European Spa. The building's simple earth tones and abstract artwork melt into the background as clients slip into a state of calm brought on by customized facials, some including serums with natural vitamins and plants. Massages and body wraps soothe exteriors in rooms that are illuminated by candlelight and full of intriguing aromas, much like an apothecary who has been set on fire. Permanent-makeup sessions add pigments that can augment natural features for years to come.

In a pastel-toned spa sanctuary, the certified cadre of aestheticians and nurses perform a symphony of cutting-edge beauty services, backed by more than 60 years of combined experience. State-of-the art treatments include medical microdermabrasion, which showers skinscapes with a mist of super-fine aluminum oxide crystals to alleviate acne scarring, soften fine lines, and free up foreheads so they can be rented as ad space. FDA-approved VelaShape sculpts smoother body contours using a combination of bipolar radio frequencies, infrared light, and mechanical massage, and dermal fillers such as Juvéderm and Restylane fill in fine lines from laughing and frowning or indentations from motorcycle helmets.

Licensed cosmetologist Michelle Schiller joins Dr. Bradley at Studio 32 Cosmetic Spa. She improves aesthetics beyond the mouth with Botox injections, dermal fillers, and a range of signature skincare products hand-picked by her and Dr. Bradley.

Skinthetics Laser & Skin Care Center’s professionally trained staff has extensive laser and skin treatment experience, which puts patients at ease during complimentary consultations. At these pre-procedure pow-wows, clients learn all about the procedures in question—whether they want to extend and recolor their eyebrows, shed unwanted weight with noninvasive treatments, or rejuvenate their epidermis with a facial or skin peel. Staffers can also bronze skin during 15-minute sunless-tanning sessions and abolish unwanted hair with laser hair removal, waxing, or electrolysis. Before leaving the center, guests can stock up on beautification products in the retail area to stay pretty at home to please their judgmental pet goldfish.
