As their spa’s name implies, the licensed technicians at Forever Young Body Works tap into the fountain of youth with detoxifying body wraps and nourishing facials that soften, hydrate, and set skin aglow. They supplement these skincare treatments with beautifying spray tans, eyelash tinting, and all-over waxing services. Permanent-makeup applications cut time out of the morning routine; similarly, ink-removal sessions save time that would otherwise be wasted explaining tattoos of string-theory equations to nosy strangers on the bus.

Named a Top Salon by Milwaukee Magazine in 2006, Bella Lei gives clients an upscale spa experience in an intimate setting. Take advantage of these environs and spend 60 minutes the Swedish way ($70 value), as trained massage therapists use firm pressure and complicated kneading techniques to untie knots and burst stress bubbles. Twitching muscles frequently relax after these sessions and show a marked improvement in standardized testing scores. For clients looking for a fresher front, the Vivo Facial ($70 value) uses a marine mask to create an even tone, while a full hand, arm, face, and décolleté massage carries the glow up through your neck and down to your fingertips like a carrier pigeon on a Fantastic Voyage.
Oh Heavenly Tan meticulously bronzes color-hungry skin with a selection of airbrush and UV tanning options. The Level I airbrush tan coats the client's island-aspiring epidermis with a hydrating, color-enhancing spray to create an equator-dwelling appearance without spending hours in the sun or buying a pirate ship. To complement the airborne body glow, a Level I stand-up tan saturates skin with dermis-darkening UV rays. The nine-minute session is conducted in one of Oh Heavenly's spacious stand-up tanning beds, featuring a digital timer, advanced body-cooling system, and two stereo speakers for piping in radio hits or recordings of Sam Elliott reading a Judy Blume book.
After painting a gradient of pink glitter that ends in a fuchsia, metallic tip, Janya Bogliole applies decals of orange slices, black bows, and Hello Kitty's face to her niece's acrylic nails so they match the girl's rhinestone-encrusted cell-phone cover. Bogliole opened the doors to POLISHED Hair and Nail Lounge with the confidence developed during 22 years as a nail artist and designed the space to reflect her sophistication. For example, contemporary riffs on Poul Henningsen's Artichoke Lamp illuminate manicure tables and shine above three hairstyling stations. The salon's mod aesthetic does not necessarily reflect Bogliole's artistic range, however, which runs the gamut from demure pink-and-white acrylics to abstract explosions of glitter (representational art is not her style). Manicures as traditional as tattooing the American flag on a baseball receive a boost with aromatherapy salt soaks and paraffin-wax dips, and gel treatments from CND, OPI, and Young Nails are also available. Rather than rely on her gossipy fairy godmother to transform clients' skin and hair into fashionable accessories, Bogliole hired two stylists and an aesthetician. Veronica Elisabeth and Christine Meehan deftly design cuts for clients of all ages and genders, and can slick on protein serums to change hair's texture or weave in feathers and tinsel to enhance its dream-catching powers. Aesthetician Cindy Goodrich highlights favored features by waxing them clean of hair and appointing them with makeup.
At the age of 11, Peggy Newlan began sculpting her mother's hair into beehives and french twists. She practiced on friends and family members, her fingers becoming more and more adept as she styled manes and picked locks. Despite her innate talent for hairstyling, Newlan pursued a career in accounting and banking. Eventually, she returned to her true calling, joined ooh la la Salon, and purchased the company in 2003.
Newlan now leads a team of stylists, as well as a massage therapist and a skincare expert who is an educator at Florida Academy. The beauty specialists perform a variety of services, from cuts, highlights, and ionic hair straightening to nailcare and spa services such as facials, massages, waxes, and spray tans.
