Jeff Woodruff started Keg Cowboy in Houston as an Internet supplier of homebrewery gear, he told Patch. When his wife got a job in Lexington, he decided to bring his business along and open a storefront. He decked it out with all the same supplies that were once in his online store, supplementing them with a climate-controlled grain vault that keeps 55 varieties of yeast, 61 varieties of grain, and 21 varieties of hops fresh and free of pests and freeloading scarecrows. He finds himself delighted with the transition, saying "Lexington has great water?and great water makes great beer."
On Saturdays, homebrewing classes supply students with all the skills needed to begin making their own bottled beverages at home. Keg Cowboy also offers do-it-yourself kegerator and beer dispensing equipment for chilling and serving their home-brewed beverages.
In addition to enhancing novice brewing abilities, Keg Cowboy houses its own craft beer tavern on the premises where patrons can sample a rotating stock of global beers which changes bi-weekly.
A destination for paint-your-own pottery, The Pitter Platter is a place where visitors are free to express themselves, whether it's decorating a mug or painting a colorful canvas. Welcoming students ages five and up, the studio's shelves are lined with raw ceramic bisques, ranging from plates and bowls to heart-shaped boxes. During the summer, kids can fend off boredom and lingering textbooks during daily art classes that keep children engaged and occupied with a host of art projects.
Before Dez White donned the whistle and clipboard of a fitness instructor, he was a professional football player for the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons. After years on the field, Dez added an ISSA personal-training certification to his accomplishments and founded The Body Firm Atlanta, where he builds challenging, constantly varied workouts for all skill levels. Dez and his staff of fellow trainers conduct classes in local parks and shopping malls, allowing participants to admire trees and bench-press mannequins as they pursue their fitness goals. The staff motivates its students by tracking their measurements and progress throughout the course.
Goins Dancing's experienced instructor Kathryn Goins coaches children and adults in varied shimmying styles, leading classes in ballet, tap, clogging, jazz, and hip-hop. Sessions for 2- to 5-year-olds are more freeform, whereas school-aged children focus on technique as well as dance as fun self-expression. Adults can hustle in hip-hop seminars that double as cardio workouts, and tap and clogging lessons impart the most proficient methods for disrupting earthworm book clubs. Goins Dancing's small class sizes ensure that students receive individual attention tailored to their needs as they perfect their rug-cutting skills.
