Since 1980, the Irving Arts Center Dallas has beckoned families and performers to its arts-focused grounds sprawled across 10 verdant acres. A quartet of galleries exhibits rotating collections of multihued magnum opuses, and a sculpture garden flourishes with innovative fountains and towering clay installation pieces that switch places when no one is looking. More than just a feast for the eyes, the arts center also educates youngsters and their familial units with summer camps and programs such as story time throughout the year.
The Irving Symphony Orchestra serves Dallas-area tune-seekers by lining up an ear-friendly array of diverse and distinctive live musical presentations. On March 12, the symphony's songslingers take the night off to make way for the virtuosic vocals of songstress Christine Ebersole.
Featuring an extensive menu of creative American food—including The Reuben 1976, born on the restaurant and brewery's opening day—Humperdink's has served the mertroplex area for 36 years. Humperdink's boasts menu items such as barbecue ribs, sustainable seafood, steaks, gourmet burgers, and original buffalo hot wings, along with a number of award-winning microbrews crafted on the premises and served on tap.
Flames shoot skyward, then disappear into the ether. Soon they reappear, several feet from where they first emerged. They're not caused by invisible volcanoes or a dragon puffing out his birthday candles. Instead, they stem from saganaki, a cheese that's set ablaze tableside. This brandy-fueled display is just one of the rousing events at Stratos Greek Taverna. Here, cooks rub racks of lamb with fragrant oregano and slice gyro meat from a large rotisserie. Layers of spinach, feta, and phyllo dough form dramatic towers of spanakopita, one of the restaurant's many homemade dishes.
The food isn't the only source of excitement. Three nights a week, belly dancers teach guests to gyrate atop the eatery's tables and wooden dance floor. DJs fill the dining room with melodies on a regular basis. Guests can also explore a double-decker patio swathed in starlight and the sweet scent of honey-cinnamon baklava.
