Clean running clothes have no place at Mighty Mud Dash, a 5K-challenge course that beckons runners of all fitness levels to plunge through stretches of mud in search of glory. Friendly competition is encouraged as waves of runners forge a path through more than 20 rugged, slippery obstacles?including wall climbs, cargo net-covered crawls, 30-yard mud-filled trenches, and a sprawling tarp slide.

Though the main race is only open to competitors age 14 and older, a scaled-down 100-yard obstacle dash welcomes children as young as 6 to test their agility and endurance. After the competition, participants gather for celebration and music at the post-race party, where they can rinse off or roll all over an expensive white velour sofa to a soundtrack of upbeat tunes. A portion of the proceeds from the event benefit the work of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, a non-profit organization working to conserve Texas's natural resources like its hunting and fishing grounds.

There's nothing worse than completing an arduous run only to find that the food and refreshments have already been cleared away. Luckily, the organization experts at Final Stretch focus on avoiding those headaches. Whether it be a 5K or moonwalk marathon, the Final Stretch staff tackles all aspects of pre-race, day-of, and post-race logistics, including setting up hydration stations and coordinating with police to ensure smooth sailing for runners and local drivers alike. The company's success speaks for itself: it's themed runs span the country, from the Chocoholic Frolic in Indianapolis to St. Paul's glow-in-the-dark Sleepless 5K.

The DJ Dash may have two D's in its title, but the run's philosophy hinges on three: disco, dash, and dance. Runners sport disco-inspired outfits, or other ridiculous costumes?one past runner dressed as a bottle of mustard?while they dash, untimed, down the course. Along the way, they jam out to high-octane DJ sets peppered with throwback classics. Finally, at the finish line, the sundown event morphs from a run to a full-blown dance party, where patrons wave glowsticks and LED lights while a live DJ provides the beat.

Held in cities across the country, the Foam Party Run gives 5K enthusiasts a chance to dash through a wall of suds without getting arrested outside the laundromat. During this much cleaner alternative to a mud run, you'll move at their own pace to the beat of pop tunes blasted by a resident DJ, who also presides over the end-of-run party. Free swag and a suds-soaked dance-off caps the run in suitably high-energy fashion.
