New York Sports Clubs, part of Town Sports International's network of fitness loci, opens up a number of equipment-stocked facilities across New York to exercisers. Strength-training gear, such as circuit machines, free weights, and medicine balls, molds muscles into chiseled depictions of physical might. Sessions on cardio machines, ranging from treadmills and ellipticals to upright and recumbent stationary bicycles, inspire burnt calories to pack up and move to cooler climates. Each club offers a schedule of group classes that draws from more than 100 fitness styles, including Pilates, yoga, and boxing, ensuring that no member has to jazzercise without a spotter. Each location rewards exercisers for sweating in its vicinity with special features such as babysitting, saunas, and steam rooms.
For nearly two decades, USA Karate & Fitness Official Training Center’s experienced martial artists have taught students the foundations of martial arts and self-defense and encouraged them to approach life with positivity. As eager students observe, the certified instructors at each of USA Karate & Fitness Official Training Center's six locations lead them through age-appropriate classes, helping them overcome fear and obstacles through basic martial arts stances and maneuvers. Strength and poise surge within pupils during mixed martial-arts training, helping practitioners harness leverage to administer self-defense blows. Likewise, cardio kickboxing workouts burn calories and impart defense techniques through punching, kicking, and nail-sharpening exercises. Between training sessions, the trainers incorporate martial arts into ninja-themed in-studio birthday parties that invite kids and their friends to celebrate a special day under their guidance.

After falling in love with hot yoga in 2010, Jiva Hot Yoga's owner, Sybil, dreamed of opening her very own studio. So she trained in the Barkan Method and became a yoga teacher herself. Along the way, she found a mentor in her sister, Sharon, a fellow yoga teacher who believed so much in her sister's dream that she now works as the manager at Jiva.
The sisters both love how hot yoga releases stress, boosts flexibility, torches calories, and helps detoxify the body. Their Barkan classes take place in a room heated to 105 degrees, and their warm classes, such as Warm Soul Vinyasa, occur in a comfortable 85 degrees. They also offer Broga, a yoga class designed for men but open to all. They encourage participants to stay hydrated throughout the day before class and to cool off afterward by watching White Christmas.
"This is a non-judgment zone. We want to empower women," said Jennifer Hall, the owner of Pole to Pole Fitness, to NJ.com in a 2010 article. Her classes—in such disciplines as pole dancing, belly dancing, and chair dancing—certainly fit the bill. Pole to Pole's workouts are accessible to ladies of any age or athletic ability, requiring nothing more than comfortable workout gear. The classes improve her students' health as well: "You're picking up your body weight. You're working out but you don't feel like you're working out. You're having fun."

Pricila Hidalgo-Liranzo began training for her career as a Zumba instructor virtually as soon as she could walk. She spent her whole life moving to the rhythms of Latin music, and found her passion in Zumba’s mix of international beats and cardio exercise. She helps students discover the same joy at Feel Good, Look Great. Pricila teaches one-hour classes either in classic total-cardio Zumba or Zumba Toning, the latter of which helps students tone muscle without having to do wind sprints in a soaking-wet gorilla costume.
