Countless do-it-yourself projects would never have seen the light of day were it not for Aurora Rents—gardens would remain untended, furniture unsanded, bedrooms unpainted. Luckily, the locally owned and operated business has rented tools and equipment—all properly cared for—to northwestern craftspeople for 50 years. Equally as vital, each employee carries industry expertise around in his or her tool belt, and delights in providing insights, safety tips, and techniques for refinishing floors or shellacking homemade Trojan horses.

What makes your business stand out?
Our mission is to continually satisfy our customer's highest expectations for quality, service and integrity, to earn their trust and keep them coming back. It's a mission that we are proudly committed to renew each day when we open our doors for business. We specialize in full service landscape and maintenance services throughout Western Washington.
What inspired you to start or run this business?
Because of the cool, wet winters that are experienced in Western Washington there is a huge need for lawn renovation services. Aerating, thatching, and overseeding lawns is necessary to get rid of the moss and to make a healthy lawn grow in in its place. I take great pride in taking an unkempt, moss-covered lawn, and turning it into the envy of the neighborhood.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
In addition to lawn renovation services we also specialize in taking care of the lawn after renovating it.
What is the best reaction you?ve ever gotten from a customer?
"I confess to letting the old lawn go last year and it was sure looking poor and neglected. We had moss, weeds and the grass became sparse and weak. This spring I hired Jeff at Growscapes and in only a few months of careful nurturing we have one of the best lawns in our neighborhood. It?s really lush and green. I just can't decide if it looks more like the infield in Yankee Stadium or Safeco Field." Tony J.
What?s your favorite part about your job?
Having the neighbors approach me after seeing my work and asking me to take care of their lawn!
Under red-and-white striped tents, handwritten signs beckon passersby over to wheeled carts filled with bundles of greens or smooth, symmetrical apples. At Newcastle Fruit & Produce’s open-air market, visitors survey a vast selection of seasonal, locally sourced fruit and vegetables that can include Bartlett pears, red-leaf lettuce, Yakima asparagus, and blueberries. Aside from assembling salad essentials, Newcastle’s team also stocks shrubs, perennials, and potted trees, and cuts pines for Christmas or anti-Arbor Day celebrations.
One of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of paints in the Pacific Northwest, Parker Paint has been sprucing up interiors and exteriors since 1945. The company has evolved over the years to keep up with the latest advancements in painting technology. Among the multi-hued fruits of this evolution are weather-ready exterior paints, whose modern formulas scoff at the elements and prove ideal for realistic yet unflattering outdoor murals of the neighbors. With more than 1,600 shades to choose from, painters will find it nearly impossible to settle, like a bowl of jello during an earthquake. Luckily, customers can take advantage of the handy virtual decorator to narrow their choices and forecast what color schemes should be applied to which room, such as aquamarine themes for the exotic-fish room, bright primary colors for the inflatable fire escape, and a variety of yellows for a basement filled with antique butter churns.
When it comes to garage doors, there hasn't really been a whole lot of innovation in the past 40 years. The best garage door is the one that opens, closes, and doesn't give you any guff in between. Sound Door Service?a Seattle-based, locally owned and operated company?understands this, and that's why a good number of their doors come with life-time warranties. But that's just the beginning. They stock a massive selection of doors that range from classic steel doors that get the job done to Heritage Classic carriage style doors, hand-crafted by retired race horses.
Of course, sometimes things go wrong, so Sound Door Service keeps a team of techs on hand. They can fix up damaged sections, install an entirely new unit, or swap out rusty springs for new ones. Techs can also correct door torsion and repair extension springs, and lend assistance and expertise to owners shopping for a new door.
