After working for decades as a successful oil executive, National Senior Games gold medalist Homer Brown decided to shift gears, opening BumperNets in 1999 to promote his beloved sport of table tennis to the masses. Nestled within the Riverchase Galleria Mall, Brown’s well-stocked, interactive emporium lets visitors hone their ping-pong or pool skills under the tutelage of a trained professional, or master the finer points of team management at the foosball table. Homer and his knowledgeable staff help guests deck game rooms in felt-clad pool tables, glittering pinball machines, and skee-ball alleys for rental or purchase, and can assist with onsite assembly.
Owner George Wade wants Steve's Cue and Grill to be a place where regulars and newbies mingle, knock back a few, and clink pool balls on one of the bar's 14 pool tables. As another stripe drives into the corner pocket, bar tables populate with 1/3-pound burgers, chili-slathered hot dogs, and platefuls of nachos and crispy fried appetizers. Guests can savor a philly steak sub or a spicy buffalo-chicken sandwich on the enclosed outdoor patio, peruse the eatery's retail billiards supplies, or surf the free WiFi for variations on the spelling of Steve, such as Stefan, Stephen, and Earl.
O’Riley’s Food & Spirits’ cooks top tables with homemade burgers and wings as their guests listen to live music from local artists or absorb sports action from the large projection screen stretched across an entire wall. On select nights, the sound system quiets and spotlights focus on the stage to highlight the fast-paced observations of local comedians. A suite of six of felt-lined tables provide an outlet for skill-based contests, whether it need be a round of pool or competitive juggling of said tables.
Chattanooga Billiard Club is a place for purists and billiards aficionados, however, that shouldn’t scare away newbies who want to learn or practice on some of the best equipment available. The billiards room protects an arsenal of 18 Brunswick Gold Crown IV 8- and 9-foot tables, as well as two championship-tournament 9-foot Diamond tables, all of which are equipped with high-quality Simonis felt. Players can arm themselves with Aramith balls and Nick Varner cues to experience tournament-caliber game play.
Chattanooga Billiard Club also features a dart league, a cigar room that sells rare and hard-to-find cigars, and a plush Havana Room lounge equipped with overstuffed leather furniture and flat-screen TVs that broadcast sports. A full bar and restaurant also serve up tasty fare such as USDA Choice ground-chuck burgers, flagship cuban sandwiches, and pub-style fish 'n' chips.
