In the 1940s, Walt Baptiste and his son Baron created a new branch of yoga?called Baptiste yoga?that combines the principles of yoga, meditation, and inner reflection. The Baptiste-yoga movement grew rapidly, and in 2005, senior Baptiste teacher Mark White introduced his community to the practice with two studios. He and a staff of more than 20 certified yoga instructors guide students from pose to pose while observing proper alignment and breathing technique. Studios are heated to 90 degrees to keep bodies limber and destroy any ice cream that enters the building.
Power Yoga's power Vinyasa classes emphasize yoga's athletic aspects and take place in a heated room. During each 60–75-minute advanced session, students strike poses while their bodies detoxify, muscles loosen, and twisty-slide velocity improves. Once every month, Power Yoga hosts a complimentary Yoga 101 course to foster fundamentals and answer questions. Classes, which take place seven days a week, fill up on a first come, first served basis. Power Yoga will lend mats to yogis, so no one need build their own out of recycled drink koozies.

Vinyasa basics flexibilifies athletic beginners, power vinyasa offers a more high-energy challenge, serenity yoga lubricates the ligaments of center-seeking students, and prenatal yoga soothes and stretches nesting nimbletons. Most classes are held in the morning and early evening, making squeezing in a workout before or after work as easy as making a smoothie with a baseball bat.
The Elements applies restorative touch to tension-laden muscles and joints, relieving stress and increasing circulation with a variety of massage services. Weary muscles receive gentle kneading and circular movements in the sigh-inducing Swedish massage, and a deep-tissue massage evicts entrenched aches using slower strokes, a strongly worded letter, and forceful pressure from the licensed massage therapist’s fingers and elbows. Heated lava stones bring soothing bliss to lattisimi dorsi, and prenatal massage therapy addresses the pain and swelling accompanying pregnancy.
