Two-time Grammy Award–winner Rita Coolidge brandishes her dulcet tones and musical pedigree to celebrate the Wonderland of Lights Festival's 25th anniversary with a collaborative holiday-music performance. Under the direction of Stephen L. Hayes, Assistant Professor and Director of Music at Wiley College, the school's a cappella choir blends its melodious harmonies with Rita Coolidge's lead vocalizations as they collectively croon Christmas standards, holiday classics, and famous ballads penned by prodigious reindeer. Marshall Visual Art Center welcomes up to 350 concert-goers in the venue's large, open room with twinkle lights dotting the ceiling at night and unemployed flashlights during eclipses.

Multitalented country-music artist Sara Evans draws from her arsenal of chart-topping hits at the 6th Annual Fundraising Gala for the Mesquite Education Foundation. Sara has specialized in old-fashioned country music since 1997, when her debut album started a snowball of multiplatinum successes and fans piled up like breaking-and-entering charges against Santa. After a sabbatical of scribing faith-based novels such as Love Lifted Me and hoofing it on Dancing with the Stars, Sara returned to her chart-topping perch with her latest album, Stronger, featuring the hit “A Little Bit Stronger.” Although striking enough to be voted one of People’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 2005, it’s Sara’s buoyant croon that breaks and mends hearts as she bellows anthems such as “No Place That Far” and “Born to Fly.”
Understanding that each child learns differently, the staff members of Sylvan Learning Center’s numerous study centers design custom lesson programs. Based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews, the staff works with students to help them firmly grasp basic skills such as reading, writing, math, and how to remember facts without tattooing them to their chests. Programs target students in kindergarten through grade 12 and mold to various learning styles, helping kids feel more comfortable in the classroom. After-school or summer classes can ready high-school students for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or wow college admissions officers with their superior writing skills, exemplary test scores, and willingness to arm-wrestle the school mascot.
Led by Jessica and Jonathan Imburgia, Body Synergie's team of dedicated instructors fosters holistic wellness through supportive yoga and tai-chi classes. Busy students can ease tension throughout the week in concentrated stretch sessions from the studio's accommodating schedule. Within Body Synergie's inviting asana room, fledgling yogis bend in basic postures and warm lighting bounces off sleek hardwood floors during Beginners Yoga classes. Yoga Roots sessions boost alignment, Power Yoga sessions challenge adventurous yogis with arm balances and inversions, and Therapeutic Yoga assuages aches with gentle restorative movements that employ supportive props to accommodate students with limited mobility due to chronic injury or wearing a suit of armor that shrunk in the dryer. In more methodical tai-chi lessons, students shift through strengthening poses while breathing carefully to heighten bodily awareness and relinquish stress.
