The staff at A & J Beauty and Day Spa can embed bliss in any part of the body with a lineup of massages, facials, body wraps, and nailcare services. Massage therapists deliver Swedish, deep-tissue, and hot-stone treatments with the help of aromatic creams and oils or unscented products that leave less of a trail for hounds to track. Facials are customized to each client's particular skincare needs, and the selection of body wraps includes a seaweed body wrap, an exfoliating body mask, and a Parafango mud treatment. For nailcare, technicians perform manicures and pedicures and offer Shellac, a no-chip gel with a mirror-like finish that lasts for two weeks.
Jennifer Lydon has a passion for hairstyling that predates her 22 years of professional experience. “We have pictures of me cutting my brother’s hair in the tub,” she laughs. “I thought I was Vidal Sassoon.” Lydon’s knack for mimicking hairstyling methods built a solid foundation for the skills she later learned in school, but technique is only part of Lydon’s style. Her first employer and mentor taught her the importance of accessible, friendly salons. He eschewed bourgeois ambiance and instead built a highly educated staff of genuinely kind people. “It was just a really beautiful place to work, and that’s what I’m trying to do here,” Lydon says, referring to Q Salon & Spa.
At her salon, Lydon leads a team of stylists in cutting hair of all types and ethnicities. Stylists specialize in treatments that range from keratin smoothing treatments to styling dreads in the beautiful salon with natural light, clean white styling stations, and colorful fine art doling out pointers. When her stylists tackle a new head of hair, Lydon says they make every effort to customize their cuts and colors to individual lifestyles. “When [customers] leave here, how much time do they actually spend [on styling]? You have to start there and build a rapport and, in some levels, a friendship, because there has to be trust there.”
You're laying face down, unsure of what to expect, when you catch a scent. It’s vaguely familiar, but you can’t pinpoint it before the therapist begins massaging your back and shoulders. The lotions and oils seep into your skin and their aromas rock your mind to a sleep-like state. The therapist arranges heated stones along your spine, and, like an electric blanket in a lightning storm, your back suddenly warms, allowing your muscles to complete the transition from tense to relaxed. The next hour flies by.
The hot-stone treatment is just one of five relaxing massage treatments mastered by the licensed staff at A & J Beauty and Day Spa. Aromatic or unscented oils accompany each custom service, be it an indulgent 80-minute Swedish massage or an in-and-out 30-minute mini treatment. The team doles out just as many facials, soothing and rejuvenating both men and women with products tailored to individual needs, and annihilating signs of acne or aging with the needle-free CarboDerm therapy. Their body wraps cocoon clients in seaweed or masks that energize the lymphatic system and firm and tighten physiques, and their mani-pedis incorporate skin-softening paraffin wax and no-chip shellac polish.
At Heritage Threading Salon, a versatile staff brings beauty and flair to the foreground of both genders. In their namesake service, threading specialists ensnare unwanted locks within twists of fine cotton thread, which enables them to remove an entire row of hair with swift precision. For more favored hairs, stylists cut, shape, and color 'dos at individual salon stations. Facials and waxing help to smooth fine lines and prep bodies for bikini season, and skilled henna artists adorn limbs with intricate floral designs, weaving patterns, and bar-exam cheat sheets.

Every appointment at Eve Michael Salon & Spa is designed to be an indulgent escape for clients. But an emphasis on relaxation doesn't mean the staff skimps on services. Rather, the team relies on cosmetic products selected for both their efficacy and their natural formulas. Aestheticians employ Yon-Ka's essential oils and plant extracts to hydrate and cleanse the skin during facial treatments. To better remove unwanted stubble, they use strip or hard waxes on the body, and gentle lavender and chamomile formulas on the face. The salon's stylists only need their shears and hair-whispering skills to design eye-catching new 'dos, although they can add colorful accents with Wella tints. Should additional pampering be in order, massage therapists soothe tense muscles with Swedish or deep-tissue modalities, or more specialized reflexology techniques.
After popping up onto the beauty landscape more than four decades ago, Salon Monte Carlo stretched locations across Massachusetts to pamper hair, nails, and bodies. Amid shelves of products from brands such as Paul Mitchell and L'Oreal, stylists color, protect, and condition strands so that clients can flip elegant hair at a party or use locks to lasso cattle at a rodeo. In private treatment rooms, aestheticians cleanse pores and purify surfaces and massage therapists perform gentle acupressure techniques to remove tension. Salon Monte Carlo's newly expanded nail area welcomes clients with leather pedicure thrones, soft curtains, and pristine manicure tables so they can have their nails shined up without lying in the path of a floor waxer.
