Showcasing North Alabama’s finest crop of comic madness and unhinged creativity, Face2Face Improv’s professional players rely on audience participation and their own wits to concoct hilariously improvised situations at knee-jerk speeds. The cast turns to the all-ages crowd for assistance in constructing the most outrageous scenarios imaginable, gathering shouted suggestions and throwing back crumpled scripts for audience members to wipe their tears of laughter on. Comics then proceed to step into and out of roles with remarkable fluidity over the course of two acts, inhabiting the mind of a vegan butcher in one scene and a claustrophobic cave-diver in the next. As audience suggestions guide the show through all of its unexpected turns, each performance is entirely different from the last, and shows are remembered only by the lingering cramps of laughter and the shirt stains from soda that’s been squirted out of noses.
Programs that build character, leadership, and valuable skills for young people are at the heart of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Alabama’s main mission. Today more than 8,000 children and teens count on the four area BGCCA clubs as a place where they can learn to grow and hone their abilities. By providing a safe place where children and teens can both learn and have fun, the centers hope to promote healthy lifestyles, community engagement, and a greater readiness for the working world. That mission is most apparent in the success of program graduates, who graduate from high school at a rate of 90%, compared to 66% nationally.

Time for Three mixes classical, country-western, gypsy, bluegrass, and jazz music to create a unique hybrid sound. Violinists Zachary De Pue and Nicholas Kendall and double bassist Ranaan Mayer met while studying music in college. The three-piece bonded over a shared love of musical improvisation and went on to play more than 200 shows. Conductor Christopher Confessore leads the trio with a skillful eye and even more skillful conductor’s wand. Though the concert begins at 8 p.m., it’s preceded by a cocktail hour that begins at 7 p.m., where guests can impress each other by playing octave-jumping leapfrog.
