Soccer Zone South Bend’s dedicated team of coaches display their passion for the great sport of soccer through classes designed to hone the technique of young strikers from ages 3–10. The newly formatted Tiny Tots course imparts knee-high kickers with the spatial awareness to kick around a soccer ball and hone the teamwork skills necessary for sneaking into the World Cup with four friends and an oversize trench coat. As kids play, learn, and make new friends on the pitch, Soccer Zone South Bend’s instructors guide their development through dedicated teaching and positive reinforcement.
Wallinwood Springs Golf Club is home to a challenging, semiprivate 18-hole golf course that requires distance drives and surgical precision to save par and dissect birdies. The front nine plays to sprawling fairways, allowing the elements to affect the ball's trajectory and requiring accuracy to ensure the ball misses the flotilla of more than 30 quicksand traps. The back nine hosts a 26-acre lake that comes into play on five holes, and the Grand River tickles the edge of out of bounds on holes 10,11, 37, and 12. Test mental confidence and survivor skills on the 15th hole, a 185-yard par 3 that boasts a strategically placed island green. Golfers can cruise around in the comfort of provided carts while munching on the included lunch of a hot dog, chips, and a beer or soft drink.
Writing and gross motor skills; math and nutrition; fine motor skills and social etiquette. Physical and social development may seem unrelated, but connecting the two can boost cognitive ability in growing children. That’s why WisdomGym Preschool always incorporates movement into its academic sessions. WisdomGym is just one branch of the Horizon Complex, which fosters a healthy community by teaching kids of all ages dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading skills.
Children as young as 4 months old can participate in gymnastics classes that help build motor skills through playful routines and exercises. At age 2, children can begin dance classes that progress to advanced levels of ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop. In cheerleading classes—for ages 4 and older—students can practice tumbling and chants with the goal of one day learning to successfully chumble. As kids play, parents can wait out in the lobby and peer through the windows that open into most classrooms.

Maple Hill Golf encompasses an 18-hole golf course, a 300-yard driving range, and a 15,000-square-foot pro shop into one place so that golfers need not travel far to put their brand-new irons, drivers, and duds into practice. The pro shop's inventory spans the entire spectrum of golf equipment, with Nike and TaylorMade drivers, golf balls by Titleist and Callaway, and footwear from Adidas and FootJoy. The shop is also a factory-authorized fitting center for iron manufacturers such as Titleist, Mizuno, and Wilson, ensuring that each club matches the player's swing style and internal polarity. With shiny new gear in hand, golfers can head over to the executive golf course next door, where they’ll grapple with 18 holes designed by George Woolfred, or cross the street to crush tee shots from the driving range's spacious, all-grass hitting stations.

Like players on the court, the coaches at T.H.O.S Basketball—which stands for Teaching and Helping Others Succeed—combine their talents to pull together a winning game plan. Coach Hoskins and his staff lead the basketball classes, teaching students techniques he's learned throughout his sports-management career—the same on-court fundamentals and advanced strategies that helped his Central Basketball Club team take home a championship. Coach Kyle takes cheerleading enthusiasts under her wing, leading them through exercises and routines that build self-confidence and character. Inspiration is the domain of Coach Collins, who encourages players to build motivation, practice, and overcome their fear that basketballs are actually enormous spider eggs.
