At Replay Studios, four wood-floored, soundproof-tiled studios surround the musicians who come in to take classes, record, or just knock out a quick rehearsal. One of the four even houses a dedicated drum studio, where percussively minded musicians can visit and practice independently. No matter which studio they choose, students can study proper drum and guitar techniques under the tutelage of the center’s seasoned instructors. In addition to teaching private lessons, instructors also group kids and teens into rock bands during after-school sessions. These extensive rock- and pop-based programs include guided jam sessions, band coaching opportunities, and summertime rock intensives.
For more than a century, Greenwich House Music has fulfilled its mission to help new and native New Yorkers thrive through instrument and voice lessons. The center's Music Together class introduces children as young as 2 years old to music through tonal and rhythmic skill exercises taught in a play-focused environment. Adult programs, such the Village Folk Sing-a-Long, Group Guitar, and Jazz Vocal classes, carry on the musical traditions that helped put Greenwich Village on the world’s cultural map. Starting from basics and moving up, lessons immerse grown-ups in a curriculum that focuses on specific genres or instruments. The center also offers private instruction sessions in more than 10 instruments, giving students an opportunity to learn a new talent one-on-one and an excuse to leave their clingy imaginary friends in the car.
One of the first Ableton Certified Training Centers in the world, Dubspot spins out digital sound technology classes including DJing, mixing and mastering, and more. The on-site group of beat blending instructors hails from all sorts of musical and educational backgrounds, with the single goal of sharing their passion for music with students. Small classes ensure personal attention in an interactive lab environment with state of the art equipment where students learn from hands-on training. The two-hour Intro DJ Workshop acquaints prospective pancake turners with the equipment and basic techniques of DJing. Students are provided with their own DJ setups and receive a basic overview of the turntable, mixer, and headphones. They're then versed in the basics of clawing and spinning vinyl records, digital DJing with Serato, beatmatching, and blending tunes. After the workshop, students will be able to drop beats and create melody webs that finally catch the goat-people that swim in their koi pond at night.

Zumba classes at M Dance & Fitness provide a hip-shaking workout so engrossing that, according to Time Out New York, students barely notice its rigor until they’re sore the next day. Set to music that ranges from pop to reggaeton, classes work the whole body through simple dance steps from schools such as salsa and merengue.
The studio’s Masala Bhangra class replaces Zumba’s Latin flair with Indian moves. Masala means “spicy” in Hindi; the routines are thus a “spicy,” or Bollywood-inflected, take on Bhangra, a traditional Indian folkdance. Studio founder Misty Clark and her team of instructors helm other dance fitness classes as well, with focuses such as ballet, kick-box dance, hip-hop, and ab work.
