Beginning atop a 20-story cliff, Lake Travis Zipline Adventures's final zipline carries riders above Lake Travis for more than 2,500 feet at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. To reach the cliff, a pair of professionally trained guides lead 2.5-3 hour hikes through Texas Hill Country, affording panoramic views of Lake Travis along the way. Before the finale over the lake, groups stop at four other ziplines that snake through canyons and soar above inlets.
Back on land, the company reserves more than 10 acres of Lake Travis shore for post-tour picnics and beach games. For guests embarking on a nighttime zipline tour or looking to linger in central Texas, Lake Travis Zipline Adventures rents out private cabins. Accommodations include a front porch overlooking the lake, as well as access to two private beaches.
While working in a hospital setting, Meredith Cooper and Melissa Hicks saw a number of children who suffered emotional devastation due to a family member’s illness. Together they founded Wonders & Worries to provide formalized therapeutic sessions for youth with a seriously ill parent. They and their staff of child-life professionals have worked with more than 1,000 families with a member dealing with cancer, ALS, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Their therapeutic sessions help children maintain a sense of normalcy while they cope with hospital visits and the effects of their parent's illness. The organization provides both individual and group sessions in English and Spanish and offers bereavement support for families that experience a loss.

Though the Austin Aquarium spans a mere 22,000 square feet, its exhibits encompass marine habitats from around the world, housing more than 3,000 species from Oregon to Indonesia in its tanks, aquariums, and aviaries. Among the activities, visitors can feel the skin of rays, hear the barks of fur seals from Uruguay, or tempt birds or younger siblings with handfuls of seed. One of the biggest enclosures houses several Asian small-clawed otters, who tumble, play, and swim with their peers in one of the largest colonies in captivity in the world. The aquarium also hosts behind-the-scenes tours and sleepovers in which kids can get a glimpse into the ocean at night, when even the mightiest sharks cower in fear from plankton's elongated shadows.
