A homey hub of pub fare, live music, and football, the affable staff of B.B. Rover’s Cafe & Pub serve up a staggering menu of deep-fried classics, savory sandwiches, hand-tossed pizzas, and more than 250 beers. Jalapeño sherpas scale the cheesy mountain of tortilla chips in the nachos starter, and the eatery’s own texas toothpix appetizer breads large strips of onion and jalapeño, delivering a lecture about the Alamo before deep-frying them. Crafted from the crust up, pizzas lay a foundation of rich smoked provolone and marinara sauce on which to build taste-scapes of up to six toppings, including black or green olives and pepperoncini peppers, or three deluxe toppings, such as artichoke hearts or grilled chicken. Desserts include apple cobbler à la mode and cheesecake with chocolate or fruit syrup.

Today, hundreds of people gather at The Melting Pot’s more than 140 North American locations to cast romantic spells over one another as they dip breads and vegetables into melted cheese and share meats and seafood prepared in oil. They all wield double-pronged spears—or fondue forks—to suspend the tasty morsels of their choice in the ambrosial selections before them, which are cleverly heated by stovetops built into each and every table in The Melting Pot's restaurants. The chefs prepare most platters in sizes best shared by two, making the venue ideal for date nights or reunions with twins who left 10 years ago to study the art of fondue.

At The Melting Pot, staffers use the restaurant to invest in their community as well. They host charity events, school fundraisers, and even run a program to reward straight-A students with a free fondue dinner.

Mighty Bird owes its existence to a seemingly meaningless phrase: wouldn't it be fun if? While out for lunch one day, buddies Brendan Puthoff and Kaleb Smith asked themselves this question after a rhapsodic conversation about rotisserie chicken, tacos, and creative sauces. Unlike philosophy majors, they weren't content to merely talk in hypotheticals, so they got to work opening up their chicken lovers' paradise, Mighty Bird.

The eatery serves up street tacos, breakfast street tacos, and half and whole chickens fresh off the spit. Wraps, salads, and sides—almost all containing chicken—abound, though there are a few vegetarian options, including esquites, toasted street corn coated with spices.

TFN Nutrition Center is a health and supplement shop with a loyal fan base. Owners Yvonne and Winthrop Graham opened the store because of their own passion for sports and health, and it shows. The clean, organized store is filled with just about every type of vitamin, mineral and nutritional supplement on the market. But the real draw is the extensive knowledge base of the owners and staff; any question can be answered, and intelligent consultations are given to anyone in need. The store also provides free educational materials, including a computer set up with the Hyperhealth software program so that customers can research scientific studies and learn which supplements are useful for which conditions. The all-natural smoothie bar in the back of the store is a nice touch, and a great way to end a healthy shopping trip here.

Though big cities tend to offer a lot of activities for residents, the sheer volume of options can sometimes make it overwhelming to find something fitting. For residents of Austin, the Austin Clan of Everything Social (ACES) makes it easy to find a good time no matter your speed, with social leagues at watering holes and bowling alleys throughout town. On any given night, participants might gather to blow away their highest ping-pong score or grab a mic during a karaoke battle to show off their high note that only dogs can hear. Over the course of a season, members make new friends, bolstering the ACES community while battling for glory with their teammates.
