Dr. Hamed Kian and Dr. Helia Dashtkian aren't just colleagues—they're also siblings. They hail from a health-conscious family and decided to combine their passion for chiropractic care by opening Jupiter Family Chiropractic. Before Dr. Kian ever adjusted a spine, he worked at Mt. Sinai Hospital as a genetic researcher. This required him to spend long hours toiling away behind a desk and resulted in painful headaches. When he started seeing a chiropractor, he was so impressed with the results that he enrolled at Life University and earned his doctorate in chiropractic care.
His sister, Dr. Helia Dashtkian, attended Stony Brook University and went on to work at the school hospital as a certified nursing assistant. While studying for her bachelor's degree, she too developed headaches and found relief through chiropractic care. She earned her doctorate of chiropractic from Life University, as well as certification in pediatric adjusting from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. Since then, she has conducted research on the safety and efficacy of the Webster in-utero constraint technique. This method can prevent unnecessary cesarean sections, ease labor difficulties, and spare babies the embarrassment of being born naked.
Doctor of Chiropractic Chris Tomshack opened the first HealthSource office in 2006 and has watched his business take flight. Named No. 1 New Franchise by Entrepreneur in 2011 and profiled in Inc., HealthSource has grown to more than 400 offices nationwide. The expansion is due in part to progressive-treatment protocols and business systems and in part to the experience Dr. Tomshack gained while in the US Air Force and the MBA program at the University of Toledo, and at Palmer College of Chiropractic, where he graduated summa cum laude. At each of his offices, a team of chiropractors, licensed massage therapists, and trainers helps to alleviate ailments such as disk degeneration and fibromyalgia. The team can also tailor treatments to alleviate pain from carpal tunnel syndrome, migraines, or arthritis, and its progressive-rehab program works with body areas that are known to cause trouble, such as weak lower backs and rebellious pinky toes.
Doctor of Chiropractic Tanya Kekki knows firsthand how debilitating pain can be. After suffering from severe migraines as a teenager, she found relief through chiropractic care, a field she discovered while earning her bachelor's degree in kinesiology. Dr. Kekki went on to receive a doctorate of chiropractic degree, and further specialized as a certified chiropractic sports physician as well as in the Webster Technique, where she can work with pre-natal and post-natal patients, infants, and children. At Kekki Chiropractic, she brings together her extensive knowledge and training to help other people prevail over seemingly inescapable discomfort.
Dr. Kekki employs multiple adjustment methods including the Graston Technique, in which she wields instruments specifically designed to accelerate results. In addition to chiropractic services, the doctor is certified in acupuncture and Kinesio taping, a rehabilitation tool that has been shown to stimulate circulation better than encasing limbs in papier-mâché. She promotes healing with cold-laser therapy and massage modalities such as acupressure and cupping.
