A night spent dancing to a DJ at the club burns calories and works up a sweat, so why not put the dance floor on a 5K course? That's exactly what Nocturnal Lands has done?participants run, walk, or dance their way through a race course illuminated by interactive light shows and pumping with electronic dance music from live DJs. After partying through multiple DJ stages, revelers finish at a raucous main stage after-party. Headliner DJ?s soundtrack the event on the main stage while participants celebrate crossing the finish line as a member of the Night Nation.
The creators of the The Colorful 5K use the term ?run? very loosely. Less of a race, and more a celebration of the human spirit, The Colorful 5K encourages participants to dash, dance, prance, skip, cartwheel, or walk the course as they douse each other in vibrant hues that span the full spectrum. Each run also donates a portion of proceeds to a local charity, which range from Special Olympics affiliates and scholarship funds to city cleanup and beautification projects.
In case of a zombie apocalypse, a few simple principles could be a survivor's salvation: Be prepared, be paranoid, and above all, run. Participants in the Infected Zombie 5K Trail Run get a chance to practice, and can play either living or dead as they navigate a woodland arena infested with walking, crawling, running, and climbing zombies. Some courses may challenge runners with additional obstacles, such as climbing walls, tire fields, and haystacks. Meanwhile, the zombies attempt to satisfy their hunger for fast food by surprising the runners and snatching flags off of their waists. Whether they've been caught, the living make up with the dead at the after-party, which features unlimited beer, award ceremonies, and live music.

Pretty Muddy's founders designed their 5K obstacle course with a simple goal: to provide a stress-free opportunity for women to cut loose and have a blast in the mud with their friends. Women run or walk at their own pace, encountering low-pressure architectural obstacles along the way that are devoid of hay, splintering plywood, and axe-wielding trolls. The finishers sport post-race looks ranging from mud-drenched to only lightly splattered, depending on their course strategies.
Though the course architects designed obstacles to be fun, Pretty Muddy team members are stationed at each one to provide assistance, and obliging signs point out alternative routes for those who’d rather keep walking. The team often reminds participants that it isn’t about how many obstacles they surmount, but about sucking every drop of fun out of the experience.
At least two aid stations are present on every Pretty Muddy course to keep everyone well hydrated. After they finish, muddy ladies can compete for costume prizes, grab a drink and listen to the music, or free themselves of icky attire at onsite rinsing and changing stations.
