Hot Yoga By The Sea is not your typical hot-yoga studio. Rather than offering traditional, 26-posture Bikram yoga, the studio allows its certified yoga instructors to base the types of classes offered on their individual specialties. The studio also eschews conventional heat sources in favor of infrared heat, which penetrates several inches into the body and is thought to enhance flexibility, reduce joint and muscle pain, and liquefy marshmallows hidden in pockets. The soothing thermal energy radiates off the hardwood floor and ceiling during each class, helping students glide into vinyasa and ashtanga poses.

At locations throughout the world, Egan's Fit Body Bootcamp instructors, including owner and world champion in multiple sports Egan Inoue, share a common goal: to guide clients toward their fitness and weight-loss goals through regimented training programs. Trainers lead group workouts that integrate cardio with resistance training, strength training, and light alligator wrestling. They design the workouts to be time efficient and varied, avoiding workout plateaus that may leave clients uninspired. In addition to motivating clients to work their bodies, trainers also empower them with healthy eating guidelines.
Arthur Murray has been a leading name in franchise dance since 1912, when the entrepreneur began selling mail-order dance lessons. Expanding his reach, he enlisted teachers to spread his signature dance lessons on first-class steamships and skyrocketed to fame in the '30s after introducing the public to such dances as the Lambeth Walk and the Big Apple. By the 1950s, Arthur and his wife, Kathryn, were hosting their own highly popular TV show on ABC, The Arthur Murray Dance Party, which ran for 12 years. Today, Arthur Murray's team prepares students for rug cutting at special events and weekend nightclub jaunts. Clients who arrive to lessons partner-less will be paired up with other classmates as the instructors assess their current skill level and make recommendations on the most appropriate program. Throughout group lessons, instructors teach the foundations of dances from a long list of styles that range from Latin to country-western, helping students to learn basic step patterns, timing, and the ability to lead or follow.
It’s common to see TRX suspension bands wrapped around the palm trees on the beach near Ala Moana Boulevard. The site is home to SOHI Fitness’ outdoor boot camps, which are run by owner and ACE-certified personal trainer Megan Clark, who has a degree in kinesiology and is the only trainer in Hawaii able to certify military personnel as TRX instructors, and her team of experienced trainers. To keep their clients engaged during their indoor and outdoor boot camps, pyramid workouts, and personal-training sessions, they rely on the TRX suspension-training system’s array of exercises, as well as sports drills. These may include sandbag lifting, agility-ladder running, and plyometrics.
In more than 200 locations in 25 countries, the staff at My Gym aims to nurture children's physical and mental development through engaging classes. Each gym houses small-scale fitness equipment with soft construction that inspires kiddies to play safely. Instructors lead kids in song, dance, jump, and exercise classes, all structured to fine-tune motor skills, critical thinking, and self-esteem. Children as young as 6 weeks can giggle and crawl in My Gym classes, which also include options for kids up to 13 years old.
Beyond scheduled classes, the gyms also host play sessions that discard lesson plans and encourage youngsters to cut loose. Open play gives them free rein of the gym's playground equipment while under supervision. During Parents’ Night Out events, the attentive staff watches over kids while parents enjoy a night of grown-up conversation or a chance to hone their Marco Polo skills for future family bouts.
