The Kamehameha Lions Club Foundation, a registered charitable organization, harnesses chuckles and world-class entertainers to benefit its scholarship fund for the Sacred Hearts Academy, the La Pietra: Hawaii School for Girls, and Kalani High School Leo Clubs Community Service Programs, as well as other statewide community-service projects.
As Honolulu’s sole art-house theater, the Doris Duke Theatre is one of the only locations in Hawaii for moviegoers to see current and classic independent and international films. While munching on flavorful snacks such as Hawaii's Best Ever nuts and Yummy-Tummy energy balls inside the intimately sized theater, guests take in documentaries and under-the-radar American films. The space resides at the Honolulu Museum of Art, often serving as an ideal location for film festivals, art lectures, and musical performances.
The instructors at Hawaii State Ballet aspire to give their students the best possible training in all areas of dance. And they've achieved that goal many times over, thanks to the Junior Company, whose alumni have gone on to dance for the Joffrey Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre, and Ballet West.
The dedicated staff guides students from soft shoes to toe shoes, starting with imaginative classes for 3-year-olds. They also teach adult classes, and branch out from ballet to teach modern dance, Pilates, and advanced Hokey Pokey.
Marking its 25th anniversary, the Santa Barbara Concours d'Elegance, which benefits the United Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara, wheels rare-collector cars and motorcycles onto well-manicured fields. The classic-car show exhibits haute jalopies such as Ferraris, Austin Healeys, and Alfa Romeos, most of which hail from 1927–1957. Revel in the smooth lines of the 1956 Fiat Eden Roc or challenge the special Indy 500 factory pace car to a race. During the Concours d'Elegance grand-finale event, which will highlight a 1939 Bugatti Type 57C once owned by the shah of Iran, horseless-carriage experts judge 20 vehicle classes and award prizes, including Best in Show, at 2 p.m. The spotlight moves from sleek rides to wines during the second-annual Vino d'Elegance event both Saturday and Sunday. The soiree will include a cooking demonstration by Scott Leibfried of Fox's Hell's Kitchen, a book signing by Sideways author Rex Pickett, and a Halloween trick-or-treat event for kids. Though it is not included in this Groupon, patrons can upgrade the general-admission package to include a tasting and sample local, national, and international grape concoctions celebrating the harvest season and Zeus's birthday. VIP upgrades are also available.
