Happy Our Art marries artistic endeavor with fine wine and spirits in a friendly, vibrant atmosphere that provides expertly instructed classes for artists of any skill level. Grab a seat in front of one of Happy Our Art's provided canvases fully stocked with paint, brushes, aprons, and all the necessary accouterments. Unlike water-skiing or taking a driving exam, participants are encouraged to bring a favorite case of beer or find a use for the juice boxes left fermenting for months in the car. Over the course of the two- to three-hour session, participants will navigate the process of reproducing a preselected painting under the expert guidance of one of Happy Our Art's savvy pigment pilots. At the end of the session, paintings can be brought home to share with loved ones or use to conceal a painting of a wall safe.

Art Bayou welcomes beginning and experienced artists to join two of its three-hour sessions on glass fusion. Instructors impart the secrets of layering glass to be melted into masterpieces suitable for home decoration and bodily adornment. Between the lime-green walls of a high-ceilinged art studio, students lay out the materials provided by Art Bayou over wide wooden tables as they prepare to fashion their trio of pieces. Pupils prepare a 6-inch slumped glass dish for holding decorative legumes (a $30 value), a freeform opus of up to 8 inches (a $40 value), and a 2-inch bauble that can hang from a silver chain as a pendant or be grafted to a refrigerator magnet (a $15 value). Dishes, decorations, and amulets may take multiple firings to self-actualize.

Slip ‘n’ slides. Mud pits. Tire runs. A tarzan swing. Regardless of whether you choose the 1.5- or 3.5-mile route, the Muddy Patriot has one goal in mind: to get you dirty. With adrenaline pumping and live music from The Bronk Bros. filling the air, racers aged 13 and older take on the Muddy Patriot obstacle course, which is made, like a pig’s-dream montage, almost entirely of mud.

Though it may technically be considered a competition, Muddy Patriot’s founder, Chris Bushart, intended it to be fun, first and foremost. As a veteran of the United States Navy, Bushart’s time spent traversing the globe made him realize how much he loved his country and how much he wanted to give back. The Muddy Patriot not only brings excitement to Michiganders for a day, but also supports local businesses and children’s charities such as Safe Harbor Children’s Advocacy Center.

Nearly a century ago, the Hippodrome opened as a combination movie palace and vaudeville theater, spending more than 70 years hosting big names such as Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra. Following a double-decade period of slow business and bad hairstyles, the Hippodrome closed down in 1990. Now, however, after an exhaustive restoration project that reanimated the theater’s chandelier-lit arches, the mural above the proscenium stage, and the grand-theater boxes that hearken back to opera’s heyday, the Hippodrome reopens to the delight of Baltimore’s cultural landscape.
